The Watcher which hits theaters on 9/8 is another suspense about a serial killer and the good cop who has a connection and is on his tail. Reeves plays David Allen Griffin, sadistic murder who kills with piano wire, while wanting to be caught by FBI Agent Joel Campbell (Spader).
FBI Agent Campbell has to fight with the traumatizing past, from LA where Griffin eluded him then. To relax and deal with his issues, he goes to Chicago...but soon the pattern of gruesome serial killer springs up, Campbell knows the work of Griffin. The story follows as the killer, Griffin, begins to send a photo of each victim, still alive with a note to Campbell basically teasing and saying "find her alive" (he kills all young women)and more importantly, "find me".
The Watcher delivers this time, unlike most generic Hollywood thrillers. Reeves discretion and acting are well done, keeping his performance in line perfectly. Spader plays intensity and underplay of script, where we can only be so jealous. Cinematography is soft, illuminating as if we visually see what the FBI agents are going through when trying to find one killer among millions of people in Chicago. The script is both simple and concise, but clever. Add in some jumping, surprise scenes with the challenge of finding Griffin...and you've got this movie on your hands.
Guys, this would be a great date movie- have the girls on your arms fast!
Girls, this has enough character and plot to keep you interested until the very end...overall, it's a clever script and I give it a B-
