Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
It's too bad that the name "Bait" was chosen for this movie. I think catchy titles should be left for good movies.
Okay, it wasn't a complete waste of a 2 for 1 rental coupon. Jamie Foxx starred as Alvin Sanders. My biggest problem with this movie was the casting. He was an incredibly horrible choice, they could have picked a better actor off the streets of Brooklyn. His facial expressions were very over-acted, although the script writers did a good job of trying to take away from the acting, and adding comedy here and there. Usually more there.
The Plot. Well, kind of. I guess some people would call it a plot.
There are more holes in this movie than a patch-work quilt. My main issue with the plot is that the writers often left out information. Mind you, I could have just missed it since I found more interest in my cat, lying on top of the TV. Half way through the movie, you find out that the guy he hangs out with, a fairly large character in the movie, is his brother. They should have mentioned it earlier, it seemed as though it was a junior high school essay, where needed details are just thrown in as the writer remembers them. There was also very little foreshadowing on the important issues, such as his jailmate being an excavator. They should have stressed that a little more, or added in an extra tid-bit.
Overview.
His jail cell partner steals 42 million with a computer-hacker-type guy. The jail cell partner hides the money, and the computer-hacker starts killing people here and there. A long way from the computer-hackers I knew in high school! Anyway, the government uses Jamie Foxx as Bait to lure in the computer hacker, and to find the money. Other than that, it's stereotypical. He miraculously is sprung from jail, given money from the government to stay out of jail, and his girlfriend and kid are kidnapped.
Final thoughts:
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a waste of time. It was a good idea, with good intentions. They could have used a couple more rehersals, plot-developers, and a better lead character!
