Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
First of all, yes, I am a geek and watch too many movies and can usually remember just about all the funny lines from every movie ever made. I consider it a gift when I am hanging out with the guys and drinking a lot of beer, because it is usually good for a few laughs, but sometimes it just makes people look at you like "Dayumm, you watch too many movies!"
But that being said, Bedazzled is a wealth of movie quotes just waiting to happen.
If you know nothing about the movie, it breaks down like this - Branden Fraser is a computer geek with no personality who works at a tech support call center (that strangely resembles the call center for Sony computers....coincidence?) and who has absolutely no friends. This is the guy that we used to beat up in High School, guys. And it isn't just because he is a geek, but he is an annoying geek - his co-workers see him in the break room at work, duck their heads and run the other way.
Anyways, to move this one along, one night he is in a bar and sees the girl of his dreams, finally gets up the nerve to talk to her, and she has absolutely no idea who he is. As he is standing there all disappointed that she doesn't know who he is, and his "friends" from work are laughing at him, in walks Elizabeth Hurley. Well, it takes a little while, but she finally convinces him that she is the Devil (OK, showing him her business card that says simply "The Devil" didn't help...) and that she will give him 7 wishes in return for his soul.
There ya go, the stage is set for some outrageous comedy (I've always wanted to say that, since it is on the box to just about every comedy movie I have ever seen). The basic idea is that every time Branden Fraser makes a wish, the Devil twists what he said or looks for a loop-hole to make his wish turn out horrible so he still doesn't get the girl in any of his wishes. It's kinda the old "Careful what you wish for, you just might get it."
So there ya have it - the majority of the movie revolves around the different wishes and how he turns out in each one. I will have to leave the plot summary at that so I don't ruin the movie if you haven't seen it yet.
I thought Branden Fraser was a pure genius in this movie. He takes on like 6 completely different roles in the movie (if you include the 5 wishes he uses plus his actual character in the movie) and I think he did an excellent job with each one of the characters.
In my own personal opinion, Elizabeth Hurley really can't act to save her life, and English accents drive me up the friggin wall, but she is definitely hot, and that makes up for quite a bit. She did have some funny lines that she delivered quite well, but for the most part she is just eye candy and not much more.
All in all, I think this movie is extremely funny and definitely worth watching. There isn't any profanity (that I can remember, anyway), not really any violence (after the first wish, that is), and not really any adult content, so it is a movie I would have no problem letting my kids watch.
