It's really hard to describe the Blue Man Group to people who haven't seen the show... So I think you'll appreciate this DVD more if you've been to it, but it's a remarkable bit of artistry all by itself even if you haven't.
The Blue Man Group creates music that is a fusion of techno, tribal, spaghetti western and industrial. Hard to classify, but wonderful to listen to. They make heavy use of PVC pipes, massive drums, electric guitars, fiberglass poles and other objects not naturally considered to be instruments -- but after listening, you'll wonder why they haven't been a staple of music making for years.
The DVD contains all of the songs from their 'Tubes' show. All of the songs are accompanied by still images from the show, except for 'Cat Video', which, aptly enough includes the video with the cat trying to catch the moving digital sign. Also included is a short interview with the creators, with some of the Blue Men doing goofy things in the background.
One thing that might confuse you: this is a two-sided DVD. One side contains all of the songs, the interview footage and some other materials using a traditional DVD menu system. The other side contains the interview footage, speaker setup information and a short 'interactive plumbing' video, but no DVD menu to help you sort through things. This confused me until I realized you have to turn the disc over and switch sides to get to the other material.
I LOVE this DVD. The music is so wonderfully unique. They did a masterful job of recording it in 5.1 format and it will really bring out the best in your surround sound system. I also listened to it on a friend's laptop, so if you only have 2 speakers, I think you'll appreciate it too.
