Having seen The Sixth Sense and loving it, I couldn't wait to see Shyamalan's new film Unbreakable. After all it was billed as an even more outlandish new thriller.(NOTE: I use WebTV and cannot paragraph so I use dots.) ..........................................................................................................................................................The movie opens withthe birth of a black child in a department store. We never see the baby but we do hear the baby crying and see his arms and legs flailing under a blanket. Considering the fact that the doctor who is summoned to the scene tells the mother that the baby's arms and legs are broken, I thought, Wait a minute. No baby with broken arms and legs could be flailing them under a blanket. Get real Maybe that's my problem...I'm too much of a realist. This movie is not real...it's a real life comic book story and if I had realized that early on perhaps I would have enjoyed it more. .............................................................................................................................................. Let me make it perfectly clear, I like Bruce Willis, but when the scene switched to himon a train, sporting his famous "neat guy" grin it didn't especially thrill me, but I thought let's give this movie a chance. Willis is a good actor, but his role in this film was just plain boring and I'm basing that on the entire movie, not just the opening scene. As you already know from the movie trailers, Bruce's character, David Dunn, a security guard, is the sole survivor of a terrible train wreck. Samuel L. Jackson's character (Elijah) is the nemesis who finally provides the reason for Dunn's strange good fortune. .....................................................................................................................................................I saw the movie with two friends who liked the film. As I said...my "reality" tunnel vision didn't allow me to view it as a comic book tale...I may go see it again to get a different perspective. It will be interesting to see if Unbreakable keeps up with The Sixth Sense at the box office, which started low and then built momentum. Unbreakable, with all the hype is drawing lots of viewers now, but when all is said and done it will be interesting to see which comes out on top. Some people leaving the theatre could be heard uttering expletives because they didn't like the film. Others thought it was great. Judge for yourself.
