You sit there stoned, your eye balls glued to the silver screen, that takes you through 4 painstaking years of Chuck Noland's life on a deserted island in the South Pacific ocean, with coconuts, fish and rainwater for food, the sound of the waves for music, his girlfriend Kelly's (Helen Hunt) picture as a memory and Wilson the volley ball as a companion.
You watch how Chuck attempts to kill himself at first, in vain, then takes it as a hint for survival. His jubilance when he makes himself a fire, his cuts and bruises, his tears when he thinks he lost Wilson to his rage, his tears when he really loses Wilson to the ocean, his ecstasy when he sees a ship at a large distance and his disappointment when the ship can't spot him.
As nature has its way, Chuck "the survivor" finally manages to escape the island and is noticed by a ship. He is welcomed home with pomp and splendour only to realize that his one true love is happily married.
