Never lose hope- no matter how dark things seem, eventually an opportunity will present itself to you. Don't miss it when it comes.
or approximately quoted - keep on hanging on 'til tomorrow, you never know what the tide may bring in.
Many people have shot down the ending in this film, but as Hanks' character leaves Hunt's to encourage her to do what is right and be there for her family, and as he seemingly wanders aimlessly, once again at a crossroads in his life, he is again being open to what the tide may bring in. And fate deliveries in the opportunity to meet the wing sculpture lady, an opportunity that Hanks decides not to let pass him by.

Well done... (Reply to this comment)

I felt mostly ripped off by this movie, since I personally LIKE Tom Hanks usually, and from the trailers, I guess I had deluded myself into thinking surely the movie wouldn't be just 2 hours of watching Tom do the Robinson Crusoe thing, there must be more to it for Tom to be involved, only to be proven oh so very wrong. Anyway, thanks for a terrific read that enabled me to put a handle on why I felt so empty leaving the theater after watching this movie.

You hit several nails square on the head.
I was not aware of RZ's philosophy on trailer-making but that disgusts me. For about a year, I have been closing my eyes and putting my fingers in my ears when the trailers come on, so that future movies are not ruined for me. One should not have to do that! I did it for previews of this one, and perhaps that is what saved it for me.
Thanks for another great one, Scott.

I wish I could get cast away on that beauty of an island! (Reply to this comment)

I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. The movie never could get to Hanks' level (poor guy probably feels like a piece of driftwood now). Well done.

Indeed a bad trailer (Reply to this comment)

I entirely agree about your thoughts on the trailer. What's the point of watching him on the island when they showed him get off it from the trailer and well as how predictable it was after that.
Your reviews are a good unique style and always great to read.

No, you're not the only one.
I agree with you (and everyone else) about the ending...
In fact, the crash and the island scenes were the only parts I enjoyed. And I thoroughly enjoyed them! The end, to me, was entirely filler...and the awkward reunion scene was, well, awkward.
Great reveiw!
