Pros:Who doesn't enjoy a bit of DBZ martial arts?
Cons:Unnecessary time span
The Bottom Line: If you're into DBZ and want your own set, go for it. If you don't know DBZ, don't start here - go back to the beginning.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Note: This is not a movie! This is a set of VHS tapes with several TV episodes on each.
Runtime: Over 13 hours
So, you've finished the Saiyan, Namek, and Ginyu sagas?
If you haven't, I strongly suggest you go back and take a look at both of them. Then you will have a much better idea at what the heck is going on, who these characters are, and just why they want to kick the #*%&! out of each other. DBZ is Dragon Ball Z, a series by Akira Toriyama in Japan, FYI, and if you don't know anything about this item at all, you might want to look at the sagas mentioned above before diving into this one.
On the other hand, if you do know your stuff, get ready for the finishing touches!
Now that everything is falling into place (such as Goku's arrival, Vegeta's side-switching, some decent battles...finally), we get to see some major action take place. The biggest problem the heroes have to deal with now is Freeza (or Frieza - I'm used to the Japanese spelling). Ah, there have been some interesting twists and turns. Now the main focus is to keep Freeza from killing everyone. He knows he can do it - he's just biding his time. It's up to the heroes of DBZ and even a previous enemy (Vegeta) to stop him. But will they be able to do it? Freeza's got powerful tricks up his sleeves and just when the heroes think they're winning - they find out they're not. In this saga you'll see fighting, death, life, and one major transformation and all DBZ watchers have been waiting for ever since hearing about it - the transformation of a Saiyan into a Super Saiyan. But there are three Saiyans - Goku, Vegta, and Gohan. Who will die? Who will live? And who will become so angry their power will become unfathomable? ...And just what will have to occur to create that anger...?
Now even though I will say I love DBZ and I enjoy watching it, the fight between our heroes (especially Goku) and Freeza just went on for way too long. In the English version (it's more fun in it's original, Japanese, uncut version by the way) Freeza says that "a certain" planet will blow up in 5 minutes when in reality that five minutes ended up spanning several episodes, which got rather ridiculous. Just because of the unnecessary time spans, I decided to keep this set from having a five star mark. Watching this fight is fun - but gets old. And you wonder when Freeza will run out of transformations.
This item (like the others) can be a bit pricey (ok, it is pricey) but there are quite a lot of tapes in here, after all. It all depends on how much you want this. No commercials, but to be perfectly honest, I'd rather spend my money on the Saiyan Saga - but hey, I also love Vegeta. If you get the unedited version, that's great because then it's more like the original. (I admit, I cheated before anything ever came out and downloaded the Super-Saiyan part on my computer, Japanese with subtitles, unedited. Great stuff.)
But I'm glad your curious to see what I mean now. After all, you can't start the series and not finish. And besides, once this one is all over with, it gets even more interesting.
