Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Last night I watched The Wedding Planner on video. It's rated PG-13 and stars Jennifer Lopez, Matthew McConaughey, and Bridgette Wilson-Sampras. It's a comedy with a running time of 108 minutes.
Jennifer Lopez stars as Mary the wedding planner. The movie starts out with her trying to get a wedding started. She has a hands-free walkie talkie type headset that makes it look like she's part of the Secret Service or something along those lines. She uses terms like "FOB" (Father of the Bride) and "MIA" (Missing In Action) when talking to her assistant, Penny over the headset.
At work the next day, she finds out from her boss (played by Kathy Najimy) that she will be in charge of "THE Donnelly wedding." this would be a huge coup for the wedding planner company. Mary talks her boss into giving her part ownership of the company if she can snag the Donnelly account. Her boss reluctantly agrees to the deal.
On her way to meet the Donnelly couple she gets her shoe caught and almost gets run over by a runaway dumpster. Along comes her saviour. Steve Edison, the pediatrician. He rescues her and takes her to the hospital where he works. Later that night, after Mary is released from the hospital, she and Steve go to the park to see an outside movie. They almost kiss, but unfortunately it starts to rain.
I'm never sure of how much of the story that I should summarize, so I'll end my synopses right there before I end up giving more away than I intended. However, I will say that this was not a movie that would end up on my 10 BEST list.
It just doesn't work for me. I can't stand cheating and no matter how you look at it, Matthew's character was basically cheating on his fiancee. Not to mention that Jennifer and Matthew didn't really have any sparks. NO chemistry whatsoever, which made it hard to believe that the characters were really attracted to each other.
I do have to say that there were some funny scenes that I enjoyed for the few moments that they lasted. One of which was the scene where Steve had to pick a statue for his wedding. If you've viewed this movie, you'll know of what I'm talking about. That part was fairly amusing.
I would have to give this movie 2 or maybe 2 1/2 stars at the most. I probably won't be watching it again anytime soon.
