Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
What does "The Joe Review" mean? 2 things: 1. I'm extremely pompous and actually believe that something named after me means something :). 2. If you read a Joe Review you will be reading a review that doesn't repeat the same things the other 10 to 30 reviewers have already said. You're just going to find out whether or not I liked it and why or why not.
The movie looked pretty good in the previews and was more or less exactly what I expected - a few trips into a tomb, some action and combat finally ending up in discovering some all-powerful artefact that Lara had better get to first or some evil jerk will rule the world with it.
One thing I will tell you is that you do need to be able to suspend reality somewhat to enjoy this movie. If you're the type of person who goes "This movie sucked because in one spot a log was dropped from a string but when it came back up it rose higher than from where it was originally dropped which violates a law of physics blah blah blah" of COURSE it violated a law of physics it's a movie stupid! Or "Angelina's boobs are so obviously fake" - just shut up it's a movie. If you whine about every little inconsistency with "reality" don't go see this movie - you won't like it.
There aren't a lot of gratuitous shots of Angelina's, hmm, uhh, BACK, yeah that's the word I'm looking for BACK :). And her rack, even though my girlfriend said it was so obviously fake, did not do that of her cybernetic counterpart justice, so don't go to the movie thinking you're going to get to spend 90 minutes drooling over Jolie, they kind of played that part down so that it wouldn't overshadow the rest of the movie (and in my opinion the movie didn't need it).
So back to the movie, it'll basically feel like you're playing the game. Lara goes into tombs and jumps around on bungee cords, does flips, whips out the guns off of her legs and shoots things that are solid stone yet somehow blow up thanks to bullets, and of course there are the bad guys who come in and try to kill her and steal the stuff she's found. Very intelligent dialog, locations, action, plot, flow, special effects, you name it. A well-done movie. Not destined to be a classic but definitely worth a Saturday night, especially if you're a fan of the game.
