This is one of the delightful, yet factual movies that don't always get its due. I like Sam Neill as the professional Australian Director, thorough yet laid back. Let's face it the Aussies could teach us a thing or two about improvising and working relaxed. When things go wrong at the satellite dish in outback Australia, first they lie to the American government that everything is ok, then improvise. But it all comes out in the wash because everyone does their job. The Apollo 11 gets live coverage as Neil Armstrong steps on the moon and you sort of knew it would all work out after all.

I like the fact that good acting does not get in the way of a good story and vice versa. Sam Neill could make Humpty Dumpty appealing. His use of the method and his own instincts are realistic. He portrays charactters in lifelike mode without all the dramatics. He plays small in this film and it is this understatement of the hero that makes The Dish a winner. I recommend it heartily.
