Pros:Ashley Judd, Hugh Jackman, Good Acting, Humorous Script
Cons:None
The Bottom Line: I thought this was a cute romantic film. Its a great film for a girl's night out. Ashley and Hugh did an excellent job.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
When there are so many other animals that practice the same polygamy. Its not as drastic as the movie seems to imply, old cow--new cow, but many herding animals practice polygamy where one male mates with several females, etc., anyways this is not a biology lesson.
This was a cute romantic movie. I think people are being way too hard on this film. Of course, it won't win any Oscars, but it is a great film for a night out with the girls. It reminds me a bunch of Down to You, but it is a lot, lot better movie.
I thought the script and story were well written. It has quite a bit of humor, I found myself laughing and crying at times. To me the characters were believable and I could really identify with Jane, Ashley Judd, except I never had any guy friends like Hugh Jackman.
I thought the acting and casting were really well done. Ashley and Hugh seemed to have a real chemistry.
The plot is your basic romance plot, girl finds perfect guy gets dumped by perfect guy moves in with sexy roommate guy and falls for him. This movie has a few subplots that give it a smidgen of depth, and Ashley plays the girl so well that she seems real, has depth and you can identify with her. It is also interesting because many of the main players in the love triangles work in the same place, so that it makes the chemistry interactions that much more interesting. Now the cow thing, any disillusioned girl who has been hurt badly can identify with the cow theory. Its basic message is that men get bored with their current girlfriends and move on to a new girl in a continuing cycle breaking hearts as they go. The cow image is just used in the movie to demean men that much more. The theory simply signifies the main character's relationship problems.
I really enjoyed this movie. It is a chick flik, and you have to take it for what it is, a cute romantic movie, and not compare it to say an epic like Gladiator or something. At least in this romance no one dies. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good romance.
