Larger than life movie--Nicole and Ewan are smoking in this fabulous movie!
There will be people who hate this film, and people who love it. I do not think anyone will be able to straddle the fence here. It is truly a feat by Nicole and Ewan that they were able to fit into this wild, fast moving ride of a movie and look like they belonged. Everything in the movie was big and bold. Everything was pumped up to the extreme. Very colorful, loud, fast-paced--you never got a chance to breathe. Some will love that. Will adore being picked up from their mundane little worlds and whirled around, faster and faster into this world of bright lights and chaos and love and death. And some won't. Some will think it was too intense, that there should have been more down time between highs...
Truly, this is a movie I cannot compare with any other. It seems to be set apart and on its own. I really enjoyed it, loved Nicole Kidman and Ewan MacGregor and their acting jobs of truly getting into their characters and lives. I recommend it to anyone--I saw it with my two younger sisters who also loved it [and ended up crying], so while it does have some suggestive elements, I do not think its too bad for kids.
Have to admit, I only went to see this movie for the multiple David Bowie nods here [David's vocals in both versions of Nature Boy and Beck's cover of Diamond Dogs and the inclusion of quite a bit of 'Heroes' in the medeley between Nicole and Ewan] and got a lot more enjoyment out of than I'd originally thought!
