The movie Rat Race has had a surprisingly large amount of hype attached to it this past week. Why shouldn’t it, there are some pretty respected actors in this film. A lot of big names are in this movie such as: Cuba Gooding Jr., Wayne Knight, John Cleese, Seth Green, Whoopie Goldberg, and who doesn’t remember the nice little show we got from Amy Smart in the movie Road Trip? Anyway, she is also in the movie. That is an incredibly talented cast that you have right there, and when you put them all together in the same movie, who knows what can happen. Besides I haven’t seen a review yet that plastered the movie, and didn’t just give it 1 single star. Usually when all of the reviews are 3 stars or better you are in for a great movie. The only question I have is: How could anyone find this movie funny at all? After viewing it, I have come to the conclusion that this movie should have never been made.

With this cast, how can the acting be bad?

The acting is horrible. Everyone puts in by far their worst performances of their careers. They try so hard to be funny, and it just comes across as stupid. Seth Green, for example, was horrible in this movie. He was a pretty great actor in my mind, before this movie. With such titles as Austin Powers and Can’t Hardly Wait under his belt, you would expect him to give somewhat of a good performance in this movie, but he fails. He is not funny at all. In fact there was not a single funny scene in the entire movie. It is true; I did not laugh one single time in the movie.

At least in action movies you get a lot of great action and they even through in a couple one-liners. Rat Race is supposedly a comedy. Well what is a comedy that isn’t funny at all called? A very bad, boring, and unfunny movie. The acting actually becomes annoying towards the middle of the movie. Here is an example: When Cuba Gooding Jr. was stealing a bus from a bus driver it was full of I Love Lucy impersonators. Great, we have a bus full of 50 Lucys that do the same exact thing as the other. So basically what you have is a very annoying Lucy that does the same annoying things that the original Lucy did, but multiply it by 50.

The best actor in the movie is Steve from Smash Mouth. I am really being serious when I say this. I won’t say much more then this because he is part of the surprise ending that you are going to be on the edge of your seat waiting for. Or at least on the edge of your seat trying to get in a comfortable position to sleep.

You guessed it, the plot in rat race is just as bad as the acting

Each of our contestants is in Las Vegas for one reason or another. And each one is playing a slot machine. Each contestant is minding their own business when all of a sudden they see a mysterious gold coin in their pile of winnings. The coin gives them instructions to go meet the owner of the casino in an upstairs suite later on that night. So that is where each contestant meets one another. When they get up there the owner tells them that a meteor is on its way to earth and is going to kill everyone accept those lucky 6 people that won his little contest. Whoa, that is a shock to everyone, including the audience. Then the casino owner bursts out laughing and tells us that this was a joke and he couldn’t resist. Wow, that is really funny. I wish that all the jokes in the movie could be as funny as that one.

After that stupid story about the meteor, he tells them that he is actually holding a race to a town in Nevada that he has hidden a duffel bag with 2 million dollars in. Naturally each person thinks that it is crazy, or that they are being put on a “wild goose chase,” so no one buys into this phony story and they all make there way outside. As they are waiting for the elevator each one makes up an excuse to take the stairs, obviously to get a head start on the race. Well if this isn’t intense competition then what is? Wow, I can’t wait to watch these people race against each other and see who wins!

Why the movie is not funny

The movie is horrible, plain and simple. The story is so ridiculous that it made me want to throw up. It seems that there are a lot of “coincidences” that occur in the movie. Like people just happen to get thrown off a cliff and land right next to a land mobile research team that is just about to launch the fastest vehicle on earth. Not only that, but they manage to go right into the vehicle undetected. These flaws happen a lot throughout the movie. After a while of this happening it becomes extremely easy to predict the movie, because you now know that the movie proves to have such a ridiculous plot line that planet of the apes is looking pretty good right now!

Anyway, the jokes that the movie gives us are not funny at all. No matter how you twist them, turn them, or reverse them, the jokes are still not funny. Jerry Zucker, the director, deserves to die a cruel and horrible death for making this movie. He took an hour and a half of my life away from me and I want it back.

Please stay very far away from this movie

If Rat Race proves anything it is that it is the worst movie of the year. Rat Race can easily be called one of the worst movies of all time. I wish that I had brought a pillow to this one because it really did almost put me to sleep. Oh yeah, and lets not forget about the ‘surprise’ ending. You almost know that one of the contestants isn’t going to win the money just by the way the movie flows. I don’t really want to give the ending away more then I have, so lets just say that it is really bad and my dog could have come up with a better ending then what happened. So please stay very far away from this movie. You will be very disappointed, it is not funny, the acting is horrible, and the directing is horrible. Everything is horrible! Please go see a different movie, Rat Race is just too bland and tasteless for anyone to be pleased with.
