Pros:None that I can think of
Cons:Horrible Horrible Script
Way too long
The Bottom Line: This is the most poorly written, ill conceived, poorly paced movie in the last 10 years.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Let me first clarify a point. Normally I'm fairly easily entertained, and don't want to leave the theatre in the middle of the show. However, not since Jurassic Park 2 or Godzilla, have I been so angry about spending 7 of my hard earned dollars on a film. Hey, Steven Speilberg, cool tech plot? What could go wrong??? Just about everything. The first part of the movie was slow to say the least. That's fine, maybe we're just building up to some sort of climactic scene. Nope, never happens. Couple has a kid, kid is in the hospital, decide to get an artificial kid who can love to fill the void. This is the basis for the movie. Eventually the real kid gets better and now the robot kid has to live with the real kid. This sounds like something that can develop into an interesting story, but that isn't what happens. All of a sudden the story does a 180 and turns into some sort of Mad Max ripoff. The entire cast changes except for Haley, and seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the last 90 minutes of boredom. Maybe there will be some tie in down the road??? Nope, not a chance. After a couple chase scenes through the woods, we lose this entire cast and are thrust into the third part of the movie. All of a sudden we're 2000 years into the future, and the during these final 45 or so minutes, I'd venture to say that the script is not longer than 4 or 5 pages. I know what you're thinking, but I wish I was exaggerating on this point. By the end of the film, it seems like you have seen 3 different movies, and none of them have anything to do with each other. Most of the people leaving the theatre, were actually visibly angry that they had stayed through the whole thing. I've never seen a movie make that many people angry. In fact, about a third of the packed theatre did leave at some point in the middle. Looking for cool special effects and a thought provoking script a la the Matrix? Look elsewhere. Want a sappy story that even most women would find stupid? Then this is for you.
