Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Last evening my family and I loaded in the car and headed for the drive in movie. For $5 a car load, we went to see Tomb Raider and Evolution. I must say, I am glad for a family of 5 that we only spent $5 on the two, both were terrible but this review will be on Evolution.
First, I will get down to the nitty gritty. Dr. Ira Kane(played by David Duchovny) is a science professor. He and Dr. Harry Block ( played by Orlando Jones) have a task to look into what happened when a meteorite crashes into the earth and some slimy creatures are present. Ok, now this may seem fine, but it really gets ridiculous as the what they call a plot thickens.
These two professors take a group of students on a field trip to look into the situation. This is when they discover the worm like creatures and alien creatures. The two professors seem to think they can win the Nobel Prize, so they go and try to figure out what has happened with the whole situation of the meterorite crashing on earth and these worm and alien creatures appear. These creatures multiplied and started to scare every one in the little Arizona town that it all starts in.
As the story goes on, Julianne Moore comes into the movie as a ditsy scientist and starts working on the project as well. She of course falls in love with David Duchony and they are very flirtatious. This could have been left out completely. Through out the movie, you see these flying alien like animals going through evolution. Fine, leave it at that, but then when the professors try to figure out how to kill off these creatures, what do they use? Head and Shoulders Dandruff Shampoo because it contains selenium. What ever floats their boat is what I said last evening while I sat watching the movie, not laughing one time.
There are some very disgusting anal related scenes in the movie. To put it bluntly, Dr. Harry Block ( played by Orlando Jones) has the fire hose filled with the shampoo and is sucked into this big creatures butte. I had to be so forthcoming, but it was just pure gross. They went as far as showing alien crap. Just pure stupid and nasty. At the end of the movie Julianne Moore and David Duchovny are in love, Orlando Jones is given a medal, and the Dan Akroyd ( who played the governor) gives credit to these scientist for their job well done. All said and done, ridiculous plot, terrible acting , and a waste of money.
As far as the actors go, I love David Duchovny, but this role was just too idiotic for him. His little grins here and there were not even impressive. Orlando Jones tried to be funny through out the whole film, well, it just did not work. Julliane Moore, well, she was just pure irritating. And finally, Dan Akroyd, come on Dan, I love you, but your role was as dumb as dumb gets.
I thought this movie would be good as I thoroughly enjoy many of Ivan Reitman's films including Ghostbusters 1 and 2; however I have to say this movie was a pure waste of money, but a nice night out.
