I almost didn't go to see this film in a theater based on the universally poor reviews it received from the "professional" critics around the country. But it was one of those weeks where there were no new "blockbuster" releases, and Evolution was playing in one of the local half-price theaters, so my wife and I decided to check it out. We were glad we did.

The creature effects in this film are great, and there are a lot of funny gags. The chemistry between Orlando Jones and David Duchovny works well, but Juliana Moore seemed just a little lost (of course, when I think back on her other performances, she always seems just a little lost...).

Evolution actually turned out to be one of the best films I saw this summer, despite the dismal reviews it received. If you like science fiction, comedy, and good special effects, then you'll probably like it too. I'm planning rent it, maybe even buy it, when it's released on DVD.
