Atlantis: The Lost Empire was a nice deviation from the norm of Disney movies. For one, there weren't any please-shoot-me-now songs to sit through. If the characters had something to say, they said it, instead of busting out with impromptu idiocy.
Another surprising thing was that people die -- a lot of people. I'm not talking about 1 or 2 deaths in the whole thing, like Bambi's mommy (boo freakin' hoo). People are crushed, shot, and blown up. It's not too graphic, but it's definitely not The Little Mermaid either.
Following a [seeming] trend in newer cartoon movies, like Shrek, there are more than a few adult jokes. Things that mostly fly way over kids' heads, so no cause for alarm to the conscientious parent, but things that will also make the movie more enjoyable for said parent.
In terms of animation, it's nothing new, but still quite well-done, as we've come to expect from Disney.
The voice acting in this movie is pretty good too. The actors' voices and tones fit well with the personalities of the characters, their facial expressions, and their body language.
Overall, this is an entertaining, enjoyable movie, and worth seeing on the big screen.
