Plot Details: This opinion reveals everything about the movie's plot.
The production team is planning on making a sequel people. Thank you to the car gods!
Plot
The movie wasn't centered on street racing, which helps because after a while that plot would get tiring to watch (I'm guessing here). The movie's plot had another thing going on - and that was high jacking trucks with items loaded inside that would be worth a lot of money. And mind you that these trucks are driving at their regular spead on a freeway or street. And these truck drivers are no longer patient with the police, who are supposed to find out who these high-jackers are. So in other words, they won't stop for no one, and they're protecting their trucks with guns.
My friend Max at first didn't want to go see this movie due to the fact that he thought it would be centered on street racing (cause he has friends that do the real thing). But then he saw "the making of" for the movie and that made him change his mind in seeing the movie. He enjoyed every minute of it.
By the way - you're probably thinking I’m a girl. What does a girl know about cars? Well I took an auto-mechanics class back in the day. Plus I know a few people who knows a lot about the cars that were used for the movie. And I loved this movie not just because of the guys that were in it, but also because of the cars used in the movie and the new style of stunts they did with the cars. I was amazed with everything in the movie pretty much.
THE DVD
When the DVD was released I had to wait patiently for the stores, because it was sold out for the first week. The DVD's extra are pretty descent and with some good extra info's on the movie. For a person who doesn't know that much about the movie, the cars, or the songs, the dvd's extras gives most of the answers.
THE ACTORS/ ACTRESSES:
Vin Diesel ('Boiler Room' and 'Pitch Black') was of course a hunk in that movie, and so was Paul Walker ('The Skulls' and in the upcoming movie 'Joy Ride'). Rick Yune ('Sider House Rules') had a short but bearable role in this movie, and he was able to pull it off in a descent sort of way. And this new guy Matt Schultz was a good looking also. And they all did a pretty decent job playing "furious". And it's been a while where I saw the actors performing their own stunts (minus Tom Cruise). And then there's Michelle Rodriguez ('resident evil' and 'Girlfight') who had her share of boxing and racing. And Jordana Brewster ('The Faculty') who justs played the sister to Vin Diesel. There could've been some better character development for the females in the script. But I thought it was decent enough. And the cars were awesome.
THE CHARACTERS
Dominic Torreto -- played by Vin Diesel, is a tough-no-non-since character. He’s loyal to his family and friends - who help him with his race car team. He's a strong, tough guy that doesn't need someone to back him up in his fights that he gets in.
Brian O'Conner/ O'Spilner -- played by Paul Walker, as you will find out a little into the beginning of the movie, is a rookie undercover cop trying to crack down on a case.
Mia Torreto -- played by Jordana Brewster, is Dominic's sister. And like I said before I think they could have developed more on their female characters that they had.
Letty -- played by Michelle Rodriquez, is Dominic's long-term girlfriend. Letty is a tough girl who knows a lot about cars and the life of street racing. And she also has a good right hook.
Vincent (played by Matt Schulze), Leon (played by Johnny Strong II), and Jesse (played by Chad Lindenberg) are all close friends of Dominic. Vincent's character is like a coyote, while Leon is tough but he's also got a soft spot on him. And Jesse is a kind guy who knows a lot about computer graphics and car buildings.
Johnny Tran (played by Rick Yune) is a ringleader for a race team gang, and who dislikes Dominic.
Ja Rule is one of the streetcar racers, and you'll only see him in one race.
THE CARS
Dominic -- red Mazda RX7, a 1969/ 70 charger [oh god I loved that car].
Brian -- green Mitsubishi Eclipse, a Toyota supra (awesome car and was owned by Craig Leiberman, NHRR president. he sold the car for about 120 grand.)
Letty -- purple Nissan 240SX.
Vince -- blue Nissan Maxima.
Jesse -- white Volkswagen Jetta.
Leon -- yellow Skyline.
Johnny Tran -- Honda S2000.
Also for the scene for 'street wars' and other racing events for the movie: racecar teams brought in their own cars for the production team of the movie. Some cars (and the team members for the car as well) were used in the movie for racing and also just used the cars/ people as a background extra.
A compare/ contrast to 'Gone in 60 Seconds':
There is mostly two contrasts between this movie and '60 seconds'. The first is the plot, and the second is the special effects on the cars/ racing. Oh. But the stunts are a little better also. The comparison is that it's a 'cars movie'.
My finale thoughts are... I loved the movie enough to buy the dvd.
I loved the movie! 2 big shalaigne thumbs up. I can't wait for the sequel.
Cheers
