Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
I loved the original Jurassic Park. And although it was a decent film, I was disappointed in The Lost World after seeing it, because I thought the filmmakers missed a grand opportunity by not bringing the T-Rex to the States earlier in the film.
So along comes Jurassic Park 3. I made it a point not to read too much about the movie before it's release. I was hoping the filmmakers would pick up where they left The Lost World, bringing the dinos home to the U.S. Alas, that was not to be.
But what we do have here is still entertaining. Never mind the paper-thin plot of this rich, adventuresome couple (William H. Macy and Tea Leoni) wanting to fly over the island. Never mind the convenient set-up of Sam Neill desperately looking for money to continue funding his dino-dig, despite making it abundantly clear he will never visit the island again. Never mind the new computer technology that can recreate the likeness of a raptor's internal organs simply by inputing data about the bones they have found. Never mind the film's short run time of 85 minutes. We still have an entertaining piece of work here if that's all you go into the megaplex for, to be entertained. And I was.
Expositional dialogue was kept to a minimum, although it would not have been missed at all if left out of the film completely.
I really enjoyed the smart raptors and the spinosaurus, but I would have liked to see more of the fight between the T-Rex and the Spinosaurus. I also thought the use of the satellite phone was rather clever, although simple and probably unrealistic - but that is why filmmaking requires "suspension of disbelief."
