Pros: My wife thinks Jackie Chan is precious, the fight scenes were incredible as usual
Cons: Chris Tucker can be too much, the language seemed more vulgar than the original
The Bottom Line: Rush Hour 2 offers just as much fun as the first and, although there wasn't much new, anyone who enjoyed the original should love another "Hour" of Lee and Carter.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals no details about the movie's plot.
Rush Hour 2 picks up right where the last film left off. By now you've seen the previews and the commercials so I don't think I need to fill you in on the plot. Instead I'll focus on the characters:
Jackie Chan, a.k.a. Inspector Lee
Does this guy ever age? I recently saw him in Cannonball Run, from 1985, on T.V. and he looks the same. I hope I age as well. Anyways, his action scenes seem almost better this time around although some of this may be due to Chris Tucker improving (we'll get to him). His english is obviously improving as he is easier to understand. Watching Jackie Chan movies reminds me of watching Fred Astaire in classics like Holiday Inn (remember the firecracker scene?). I've been hooked on his movies since I saw Rumble in the Bronx and I'm not tired of them yet.
Chris Tucker, a.k.a. Detective Carter
Chris Tucker is...well...Chris Tucker. His fighting scenes have gotten better, but he can still be a little much at times. Also, he tends to cuss a lot, not the f-word but pretty much everything else. As you can tell, I'm not his biggest fan, though.
The supporting cast is great. The movie moves along fairly quickly though the beginning is slower than the rest of the film. Parents taking small children be forewarned there are a few scantily clad women (and men) but they are fairly brief scenes. Be sure to hang around for the outtakes during the final credits to watch Jackie and Chris goofing up.
