Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
My fiance absolutely had to see this movie. The previews looked good, but I had read some pretty awful reviews about it. Nonetheless, we went on cheap night.
Although it had a good, simple plot, the foresight I had from the bad reviews shone through. Freddie Prince Jr. really does only have two facial expressions! The acting was almost sufferable. It seemed like a junior high play. I'm sure the director had to yell "cut" a lot, but they still used the improper footage ... (it seems.)
But, as I mentioned before, the plot was nice and sound. A local guy is finally good enough for a baseball team league, where he will be prospected by scouts. He swears off women and beer for approximately five minutes. He has personal conflicts, wants to quit, and eventually gets the pro-baseball job offer.
I always include something that bothered me about the movie. One of the main conversations that irked me is when Ryan (Freddie Prince Jr.) has to say to the "snotty" rich girl, that he's the one who mowed her lawn for six years. She has NO idea who he was/is. Anyway, later on, she mentions an incident that happened one day when he was mowing her lawn.
As always, it's 100% your choice if you want to go see (or rent) this movie. If you can wear side blinders to get past the bad acting - then this is a great movie. However, if you are the type of person that sits there and watches screen "play" time by overpaid and underqualified actors and nitpicks - skip this movie and go watch a real box office hit.
Thanks!
