Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
My husband and I wanted to rent some type of thriller last night, and I had heard some actual cool things about this movie, so "The Glass House" was our winner!
First let's start with the four main characters in this film. First there are the Glasses, a psychotic couple, played by Diane Lane and Stellan Skarsgard, who more than likely coined the term " the ODD couple." Next we have the children, Ruby and Rhett Baker, played by the gorgeous Lelee Sobieski and Trevor Morgan. What have brought these people together? Murder, plain and simple.
The beginning of this movie had me first playing the "I know who they are" game with my husband, as Tom Hank's wife plays the children's mother, and Jackie's husband, Fred, from Roseanne, played their father. It's the perfect family setting, everyone around the breakfast table, kids fighting while Mom and Dad get ready for work. Ruby decides that she IS going to be a rebel, as most teens think they are, and that very same night decides to party into the late night with friends, only to come home to police cars littering her lawn and driveway.
It's happened, the unthinkable.........her parents were in a car accident, falling to their death off of Muholland Drive. Ruby and Rhett go through the parade of people attending their funeral, and blow off their Uncle, while agreeing to stay with the Glasses, ONCE family friends of their deceased parents.
This is where the rollercoaster starts that descend, the kind that makes you want to close your eyes, but you keep them open so that you don't miss anything. Ruby and Rhett must find out the truth behind the Glass, and must find it out before they too take a leap to their own deaths as well.
I thought this movie was incredibly interesting- it kept my attention enough that the project I was working on didn't get done until the movie was over because I didn't want to take my eyes off for a second. The movie has so many twists and turns, that you start to question each character's personality and that is where the quest truly begins for truth in this film.
I also loved the fact that they didn't garbage the film up with pointless sex scenes, or bloody massacres that make you want to find the nearest bathroom afterwards. I will agree with some critics who found the plot to drag a bit, but I chalk that up to BUILDING the story line so that when the good stuff happens, you know the difference of what an impact it has on the viewer.
I highly recommend this film for adults who are spending a night at home together, or can't find anything on t.v. I wouldn't recommend it for a date or a party situation because let's face it, if you have alot of noise in your home, you just can't concentrate on the film, especially such a quiet and suspenseful one as this.
