Pros:Superior video and audio quality, Both DTS and AC-3 available, Anamorphic
Cons:No bonus material
The Bottom Line: For superior picture quality and audio immersion, this is a must for your home theater.

Plot Details: This opinion reveals no details about the movie's plot.

I do not have the 3-pack collection. However, I did buy two of the three movies separately (Crouching Tiger and 5th Element). I want to write a general Superbit review rather than an individual movie review. Each movie has slight differences, but overall, the quality is very similar.

If you have the state of the art home theater equipment, you are always looking for material that would showcase your equipment. With a progressive scan DVD and HDTV TV, you can get close to the theater quality viewing experience. However, since the advent of HDTV and progressive scan DVD, there hasn't been too many DVDs which are considered reference. Fifth Element was the best transfers from reference. So naturally that was what was used mostly for showcasing.

Sony and Tristar is trying to start a new standard by bringing the best video and audio possible to the home. The Superbit titles utilize a special high bit rate digital encoding process which optimizes video quality while offering a choice of both DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.

Video

Just absolutely stunning. To date, HDTV signal is by far the best image quality that I have ever seen. HD image has some depth and actually looks 3 dimensional. DVDs have not achieved the level of HDTV, until now. Superbit is very close. The colors are rich and saturated. The image is very clear and you can see details that are lost on regular DVDs.

Audio

Any DVD needs to be seen in a home theater setting. With that in mind, Superbit provides you with a choice between DTS and AC-3. There are not too many DVDs out today that have that option. Usually, it is one or the other. In my opinion, the audio tracks are improved over regular DVDs. The sound is smooth and dynamic. Bass is strong but not overbearing. DTS format provides an feeling of expansive setting within a limited space. Finally, dialog seems clearer to me even at low levels. Sometimes, I have a hard time hearing speech on some DVDs. Superbit is an improvement in this area.

Overall, much better than the average DVD. If you have the equipment to compliment the Superbit, I would highly recommend you trying it out. At this point, these DVDs are roughly the same price or 1-3 more dollars. In my opinion, it's worth the extra $.
