The Bottom Line: This is a great romantic film with a good plot and good acting. Great for a girls night out or a romantic evening with you significant other.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
a delightful discovery by accident. If my parents had not called and asked me to come home for a visit this weekend and then I had not called my best friend from high school to ask to her to see a movie with me, and we had not decided to see this film. Well then, we would have missed out on this delightful little romantic film. It has a wonderful little story and you are guaranteed to leave with a little more bounce in you step then when you came.
The acting is good. John Cusack plays Jonathon who is a hopeless romantic even though he doesn't know it. He is so good in these roles. He has the right attitude and body language that make him perfect for these roles. Kate Beckinsale also does an excellent job as Sarah, a believer in destiny. She portrays the quirky nature of Sarah to a perfect degree. These two have a great chemistry in this movie even though, through the story line they spend most of it apart.
The cinematography was nothing fancy, no special effects, no strange camera angles, but it was good. I do disagree with their choice of soundtrack. It was at times annoying.
The story is good. It is a fate plot that in a way reminds me of Only You. Thats the one where the girl chases the guy all over Europe because she believes she is destined to marry him.
Jonathon and Sarah meet by chance when they both try to purchase the same pair of gloves, (the sequence of the gloves travel from the stock room to the floor was not an especially good way to introduce the film.) They decide that Sarah may have them and decide to have ice-cream together at Serendipity 3. They both have significant others at the time, but Jon is smitten. Sarah declares if fate wants them together then it will bring them together again. Well it does in just a few minutes, after parting each discovers that they have left something at the restaurant. They then decide to go ice-skating together. Afterwards she won't give him her number but writes it in a book which she will sell to a bookstore, and he writes his name and number on a five dollar bill which she spends. When the information finds its way back to them, then they will know it is meant to be. The rest of the movie consists of the lengths that they both go through to help "fate."
Its a wonderful film. Great for a girls night out. It is funny at times, with the antics that they do just to find one another. The plot moves rather well, it will hold your interest. If you love a good romance, then see this film. It will warm your heart.
