The most obvious lesson that they may have learned is how better to please a sex partner. I guess we’ll have to await the sequel to find out for sure if that lesson sunk in! A second lesson, I think, is that living each day for raw emotion is a chancy kind of existence. Their increased interest in their respective futures and in getting ahead, exhibited in the final scene, is part of maturation. I guess I don’t see it as the death of their individuality.

that "the lads have acquired several transcendent lessons in life"? What is the evidence the lessons have stuck? They seem to have become conventionally bland in the last scene--middle-aged 20-year-olds, as the revelations at the end leave a taste of ashes in the audience's mouths.
