Product Rating:
Pros: Matthew Lillard, and the spookiest ghosts in a long time.
Cons: Saving the best ghost for last and keeping him onscreen 3 seconds
The Bottom Line: Thirteen Ghosts is one of those usual release during October to gain a little profit, by making a scary movie, and it isn't all that bad.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Thirteen Ghosts?
A Remake of a old William Castle 60's horror rehash film.
Didn't they just do this with House on Haunted Hill?
I believe so.
I agree with Roger Ebert when he says this and I quote him on this...."'13 Ghosts" is the loudest movie since ''Armageddon.'' Flash frames attack the eyeballs while the theater trembles with crashes, bangs, shatters, screams, rumbles and roars. Forget about fighting the ghosts; they ought to attack the sub-woofer."
Thirteen Ghosts is a Horror man's thinking film, until the movie takes its own ride into obilivion, in the end.
Matthew Lillard of Scream fame plays a part equal to that of Dan Aykroyd's Character in Ghostbusters!! That part and the Freakiest ghosts ever put on screen keep this movie afloat from being a dud!
I don't want to reveal the plot because I am sure everyone of you people will want to experience this movie for yourself.
The movie features Wings Tony Shalhoub, American Pie's Shannon Elizabeth, Some little kid I didnt like, A black women rapper, and Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham.
What I will reveal of the plot is this, dead Uncle Cyrus (F. Murray Abraham), whose researches into the occult included a medieval manuscript allegedly written by the devil (hmmm). He leaves his house to his nephew Arthur (Tony Shalhoub), whose wife has tragically died in a fire, that we learn so slowly in a 360 degrees camera sweep montage in the begenning; Arthur moves in with his son Bobby (Alec Roberts) a annoying brat who needs his a** beat for not listening to his dad, his daughter Kathy (Shannon Elizabeth) and Maggie the nanny (Rah Digga)(who rivals Jar-Jar Binks as the most annyoing comedy relief ever in a movie). They're joined by a wise-cracking ghostbuster named Rafkin (Matthew Lillard) and Kalina (Embeth Davidtz), a paranormal who knows a lot about Uncle Cyrus, his research, and how the house works.
The movie isn't all that bad, Robert Zemeckis producing team who did "House on Haunted Hill" is a lot better, if thats saying much, the best thing about both of them is they feature a great actor and great special effects.
Worth watching on a stormy night.
oh, and the 13 ghosts well I dont want to ruin it but a few of them are named, "the Jackal", and the eternal child.
