MerlinSteele's Full Review: Brotherhood of the Wolf
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
I haven't written a review here at epinions for quite a while, mostly because not much has gone on that has interested me all that much. I've seen a few movies, some that I may have liked, but nothing that made me want to write about it. However, after watching Brotherhood of the Wolf, I feel compelled to add my two cents, even though it won't mean that much compared to all these other great writers.
The first thing I'll remark upon is the length of the movie. When I rented it, and as my friends and I watched it, I had no idea of how long it was, and as it went on and on and on, I was surprised the story wasn't over yet, but I felt glued to my seat, wanting to know exactly who and what was causing the death of all those people. I had a feeling that once I found out, I would either be very disappointed or maybe even more intrigued. As it turned out I was very intrigued.
I didn't realize that Marc Duscacos or whatever his name is from the television series 'The Crow: Stairway to Heaven' I think it's called was in it, but when I realized he was in it and the part he was playing, I was pleasantly surprised. He uses some martial arts in this movie, but they are well-placed and seem to have real meaning for the story. In fact, the whole movie, even though it kept me guessing, seemed to slowly fit together like a large but colorful jigsaw puzzle.
The movie isn't all sunshine and blue skies, either, as a person will see who watches the movie. I was pretty disappointed by something that happens during the movie, but it seemed to bring out more strength and added depth to the other character left in the story. I'm trying not to give away what happened, just to say that times do get dark during the movie, so to speak, but things do have a way of evening out. Well, enough of this vagueness!
This is not a movie for kids, especially small ones, because there is a bit of gory scenes here and there, plus some nude scenes, also.
Overall I have to rate this movie 4 stars, and I feel like it's worth all that and maybe more. This is not your typical movie with an easy bad guy/good guy scenario. It goes pretty deep and to me actually made sense. The beast that is sought turns out to neither be a mythical beast nor is it an easy simple animal once it is becoming 'unmasked'. I believe anyone who doesn't mind spending the time to watch this movie will like it.
