Several months ago, I decided to get all my old cartoons/movies from my father’s house so that my son(s) could watch them. I remember when I was small I would watch a tape repeatedly for several weeks on end. Peter Pan was one of them.
Peter Pan (the first one) is a story of a boy (roughly age 11) who decided he would never grow up. He has a group of followers (the lost boys) and a best friend fairy named Tinkerbell. Wendy, a girl from London tells her little brothers all about him and Neverland (where he lives).
Finally, her father thinks it’s time for her to “grow up” and stop telling ridicules stories to them. Then when Wendy’s parent’s go out for a party Peter Pan stops by to get his shadow that he had lost there at her house listening to her stories. Peter takes Wendy and her brother’s back to neverland with him. There they have quite an adventure when Peter Pan’s rival Captain Hooks almost blows him up. (Captain Hook has quite a grudge when it comes to Peter, you see he cut off his hand and fed it to a crocodile which has since followed him around waiting for a chance to chow down on the rest of him).
The cast:
Peter Pan~ the boy who never grew up. He’s a fun loving & boastful flying kid who has adventures daily.
The lost boys~ the orphaned boys who decided never to grow up. He’s Peter Pan’s men.
Captain Hook~ a pirate who wants nothing more than to do away with Peter Pan. Peter once cut off his hand and threw it to a crocodile who haunted him for the longest time trying to get another taste of him. He’s kind of spooky sometimes in the movie. Really dark and creepy. That might scare some little ones.
The octopus~ a reincarnated crocodile. He’s after Captain Hook now.
Jane~ Wendy’s daughter who is “mature” and takes no nonsense.
Danny~Jane’s little brother who believes in Peter Pan
In the sequel, Return to Neverland, Wendy has grown up and has two kids of her own.
There is a war going on and her daughter Jane has left her childhood fantasy’s behind after her father goes away and tells her to take care of the family. The night before her and Danny will be sent away to the country (where they will be safe) she gets into an argument with Wendy & her brother and claims that Peter Pan is just make believe and that they have no time for that.
When Jane falls asleep Captain Hook kidnaps her thinking she’s Wendy & takes her to Neverland for Peter Pan bait. Then she meets Peter, the lost boys, & all the rest of the original cast (except the crocodile, he’s replaced by a Hook eating Octopus!).
Jane does not believe in fairies or neverland. Therefore she cannot fly home, you need faith and trust (and pixie dust) for that. Hook says that he wants to get off the island & neverland but he needs to find his treasure that Peter stole first. He gives Jane a whistle and instructs her to blow it when she finds the treasure and Peter is with her. Jane says okay as long as Hook doesn’t harm Peter…sure….
So, anyways while this is going on Tinkerbell is growing weaker and weaker because Jane said she didn’t believe in her….
I don’t want to give away anymore of the movie so I will stop right here.
I from the movie previews I thought it was kind of based on the movie “Hook”. I was mistaken. Wendy does not go to neverland to save her or anything like that. I thought the movie was quite predictable but it’s not really for us grown ups anyways (or is it?)
My son really enjoyed this movie. Peter Pan is his all time favorite cartoon. This was also the first time he has been to a theater. It’s the same cast. Hook sounds & acts the same. Tinker bell is still a jealous female & Peter pan is the same boastful boy as he always was. Wendy is still telling Peter Pan tales.
I would defiantly recommend this to any fan of the first movie. The sequel defiantly goes right along with the first movie so you would want to see “Peter Pan” first (if for some weird reason you haven’t already viewed it!). The movie is funny but has a few serious moments. (I even got teary eyed in the beginning of the film).
The movie goes pretty quick. I don’t think this movie was as good as the first one but most sequels aren’t.
