Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
For all of us misfits who wish we could create our own herd, this is a cute movie.
As much as I enjoyed Shrek and Monsters, Inc., I honestly wasn't expecting a whole lot from Ice Age. So, when the plot wasn't great, I wasn't disappointed.
The animation wasn't outstanding; the humans looked boxy and flat, the squirrel (that struggled to store his little acorn throughout the film) looked like something out of Far Side.
Ray Romano was the only well-known voice I heard (forget names, but he was the mammoth); I even watched the credits to see if I should have known any others. I couldn't remember, let alone pronounce or spell, them.
Overall, the plot was a little iffy -- it seemed like a rough re-take of Willow or Monsters, Inc. (get the human baby back to its own kind). The interaction between the mammoth, sloth (who spoke with a weird lisp) and saber-toothed tiger (who was too nice to be a tiger) was cute but sometimes seemed forced.
But, there were some good points, and funny moments. Most of them went by quickly (the baby flashes the Vulcan "live long and prosper" salute as they walk past a flying saucer frozen in the ice caves), but if you pay attention, you'll find something to laugh at.
