I've read several reviews of this movie.... (Reply to this comment)

and I'm *really* surprised that no one is talking about the logical flaws in it. They were jarringly obvious to me, and turned this film from "a shocking portrayal of the future" to mere fiction.

Hey-I LOVE Sci-Fi! (Reply to this comment)
by iamepinioated
I may get strange looks in the movie stores by the clerk, but all I get is sci-fi. Second to that comes romantic films, of course :).
Thank you for the wonderful review. I will definitely try to find a willing sitter (a rarity with three children these days) so hubby and I can step out and enjoy this one! That is the worst thing in the world-you fork out big bucks for the sitter, the movie, the popcorn, the beverages, and then you snore through two hours of torturous you-know-what.

I'm about to watch Minority Report today so I needed some positive boost because lots of my friends didn't appreciate the movie. I'm not very into-Tom Cruise but I love Spielberg's films. Thanks that I chanced upon your review or else I would have not gone to watch it anymore. :)

"But boy she's sure lucky to have scored him! "
Really, ask Nicole Kidman if she was lucky...
Cruise comes across as a control freak and a major egomaniac. Other than physical appearances, he doesn't seem like a catch at all to women.
I think Tom was lucky to have found a down to earth person like Penelope Cruz, who will tolerate his attitude.

You're stunned that a chick would give a sci-fi thriller five stars, aren't you?! (Reply to this comment)

No! If I assumed women were uninterested in sci-fi themes that would leave me with a a bleek outlook and opinion of women's roles and involvement in technical/scientific issues, problems and solutions. If more women were interested in non-material issues there may be a better communication between the sexes.

Looks like we're in total agreement again, right down to our only gripes. I was cringing like never before at the gore part you speak of. I too loved the comedic element they threw in there; I sure as hell wasn't expecting that! The one part where the couple is fighting and the spiders come in to check their ID's, and they stop fighting so the spiders can check them out; then they just go back to fighting again. I think I laughed for like the next minute and 30 seconds after that. The panning right across to the guy taking a dump and getting checked sure didn't help put a stop to that.
Anyway, great job :) If I get bored enough maybe I'll try to put one in here. My only problem is I wouldn't feel right, because I was 7 minutes late for the movie and I stood in line for 15 minutes after that for the nachos. So who knows how much of the beginning I missed.

I've got to disagree. (Reply to this comment)

I enjoyed the movie a lot; I actually considered that loss of privacy you described to be the scariest portrayal of future so far. However, if I ever reviewed the movie, I'd take away two stars for the last 30 minutes. The movie would have been much more powerful if it ended with Cruise imprisoned, with a cut to the end titles. I wish I lest the movie at that moment...

I didn't have high expectations of this one either based on that I really didn't like AI:Artificial Intelligence or Vanilla Sky. But, I was very impressed with this one.
I too figured out the ending and was disappointed with it--a little bit rushed and quite a Hollywood cliche. My guess is that DVD version will have an "alternate ending."
Nice review!

Another point (Reply to this comment)

You brought up a good point about the movie that I failed to mention -- the comedic moments, which sometimes almost come as a shock, considering all the dark elements of the story. Some of those gags are quite funny.
Good goin'!

...Minority Report last night too....good flick. You've written a wonderful review of it too!
It wouldn't normally be my type of movie...but uhhh, well it had Tom Cruise..so how bad could it have been? lol
I agree the spiders were a really cool part of the movie...I think it would drive me crazy though to go to a Mall and hear my name with every ad that there is! Great job....kath

I really want to see this movie too. Hopefully I'll get to see it soon.
I don't like Penelope either. I just don't see why some people think she is so great.

She has also been nominated for an Oscar for her work in "Sweet And Lowdown." If you liked her so much in "Minority Report," you might like her here, too. Thanks for sharing!

I agree. A "Wow" is an appropriate choice of vocabulary. Though my viewpoint of the movie wasn't as fond (four stars), I must say that I'm not disappointed by the end result.
(to be honest, the last ten minutes did feel a little generic for a movie that wasn't.)

...from the trailers that I watched, it seems to me that this film is almost like sci-fi version of Mission Impossible, and because of it, it has put me off watching the film. I guess after reading the review, I might reconsider...
Great review as usual.
