Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
Being a Wiggles fanatic that I am, I pre-ordered Hoop-Dee-Doo! Its a Wiggly Party on DVD so that I would get a copy as soon as it was released in early April 2002 in the US. Now that we've had this DVD for a month I'm finally getting around to reviewing it. I had a bit of a problem with my DVD remote control that was prohibiting me from viewing this movie, but I'll spare you the details of my operator errors.
The Wiggly, Wiggly Background
If you are not familiar with The Wiggles, they are a group of four Australian grown men with backgrounds in Early Childhood Education who sing and dance around and perform children's tunes. Each member of The Wiggles (Greg, Murray, Anthony, and Jeff) wears their own color (Yellow, Red, Blue, and Purple) and has a distinct performance personality. The Wiggles are joined by a few of their friends which include: a pirate (Captain Feathersword), a dog (Wags the Dog), a green dinosaur (Dorothy the Dinosaur), a purple octopus (Henry the Octopus) and a few other friends - which add to the fun. Their biggest appeal is the 6 and under crowd with a strong toddler contingent making up quite a large fanbase in Australia, US, and Canada.

A Few of Our Favorites
Wiggly Party sets the tone for the program. This is the theme song and is a catchy tune. Lots of colors, balloons, and happy children are sure to bring a smile to your face and make you wannna Wiggle!
Captain's Magic Buttons - Button pressing is one of my son's favorite activities so this song has a special place for us. Its all about pressing button's on a magic vest that Captain Feathersword has. When he presses the buttons magic happens to him. Magic, in this case, is a change of costume, but its really a riot and a lot of fun.
Marie's Wedding - A pretend wedding perfect for preschoolers who are interested in "dress-up". The little girls are dressed like flower girls and bridesmaids and the little boys are dresses up like ushers. The Bride and Groom are none other than Wags the Dog and Dorothy the Dinosaur. The dance for this song includes Irish step dancing.
Zoological Gardens - A trip to the Dublin Zoo. This song features cartoon drawings to illustrate the zoo-trip instead of real pictures of the animals.
Swim Henry Swim - Henry the Octopus loves to swim and play with his underwater band. This song uses some traditional swim strokes (Breast stroke, crawl, etc) in addition to the dance moves. Most importantly, the song is all about swimming safely with - always with a parent or a friend and never alone.
Fun On The Farm - Anthony tries to use Captain Featherswords magic buttons to make all the farm animal sounds but he can't work it so he takes the jacket back to Captain Feathersword. Instead they all put on denim overalls and straw hats and sing about the farm. Little kids are dressed up as animals (ponies, sheep, etc) and The Wiggles sing about how fun it is on the farm with tractors, working, etc. Jeff and Murray even take some time in between verses to tell a few jokes.
Of course, like in all Wiggles programs, Jeff falls asleep! We learn about dreaming and using our imaginations. And off to Caveland we go!
Caveland is the most unique song on this program and one that has a large amount of appeal to my son. The Wiggles did this song a little different than the rest of the program. Caveland is done via Computer Animation and features animated versions of each Wiggle and also Dinosaurs. This song also has educational value and can teach the names of some of the more popular dinos to your child. Each Wiggles program has 1 tune that 'gets in your head' and for this album its probably Caveland. This is the tune that I'll be humming in the grocery store. Lets do the Triceratops!

Any Dislikes?
Compared to some of the earlier programs from The Wiggles, Hoop-Dee-Doo! Its a Wiggly Party is extremely well put together professionally and is very polished. If you watch all of The Wiggles programs in the order of release you will see that there is an obvious progression from simple to complex. I'm not so certain that these are all necessarily improvements, nor a totally "good thing". With children there is much to be said for all things that are simple. So, while I find Hoop-Dee-Doo! Its a Wiggly Party to be quite visually appealing I would also have to say it is overdone at times. The multi-color everchanging backgrounds and sets and stages cluttered with children and props are just too much at times. Its my thought that The Wiggles could have made just as a successful program (and maybe more so) on a smaller and simpler scale.
Overall Recommendation Hoop-Dee-Doo! Its a Wiggly Party is a welcome addition to our Wiggles collection. I'm impressed with how fluid this program is from start to finish. Hoop-Dee-Doo! Its a Wiggly Party uses live action, computer generated animation, still cartoons, costumed characters, and more and is not choppy at all.
By far, Hoop-Dee-Doo! Its a Wiggly Party, has the highest energy level of any Wiggles program and the term "upbeat" just doesn't do it justice. Be forewarned, however, that if you are a fan of simpler Wiggles programs like Wiggle Time you may be disappointed. Even though we love Hoop-Dee-Doo! Its a Wiggly Party, my preference is for their more simple programs.
If you have a child, or know of a child that likes music, dance and to have a good time consider checking out Hoop-Dee-Doo! Its a Wiggly Party.
