Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
Cant get enough of the damn near round-the-clock programming of jiggling booty-saturated rap videos on BET or MTV? Are you yearning to see your favorite rap video vixen bare it all and on command? If so, then the guys at Game may have the perfect solution for you.
Game is a New York City based dynamic entertainment company launched by The Sources founding editor Jonathan Shecter and veteran rap A&R Eric Rhea. The organizations not-so-secret marketing strategy is to use the Game Girls, a diverse group of young multiracial (for that exotic look) hotties, to promote their media releases, artists, and venues. The Game Girls have already been featured in layouts in XXL and The Source, and now are the primary eye-candy behind Hip-Hop Honeys, the tape dedicated to exposing the models, strippers, and dancers appearing in todays most popular rap and R&B videos.
Hip-Hop Honeys starts off by introducing us to the current crop of Game Girls, who rap fans have already seen repeatedly gyrating in a wide assortment of videos including several by Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, and OutKasts B.O.B. Each of the 25 girls has her own roughly five-minute segment in which she poses and strips seductively for the camera on a reasonably well decorated set. Most of the women sport truly original and unique stage names like Chyna and Destiny, so its plain that they definitely desire to maintain some personal distance from their work, which is fine. Still, fans can get an idea of the real women behind the gorgeous racks through the short biographical info the girls give on themselves throughout their segments.
The musical background for each segment consists of beats from some well-known rap producers such as Alchemist, DJ Premier, and Buckwild, as well as some tracks from some lesser-known beatmakers. Surprisingly, the majority of the beats by the underground cats are good, though some are blatant rip-offs of other rap tunes. Its just too bad that the director didnt really try to synchronize the dancers movements to the beats, that extra step would have helped give the scenes a more polished feel.
Though most of the women are just typical round-the-way models and dancers (granted, round the way girls who can apparently get wholesale prices on silicone) the second, smaller set of Game Girls is comprised solely of porn stars. Adult movie favorites India, Dee, Nikki Fairchild, and Hip-Hop Honeys host Crystal Knight step up in the latter part of the video, visiting Las Vegas and riding through the town in an expensive Hummer limo. A short chat session between the girls discussing the future of Game and the Game Girls goes on for a few minutes, then the four appropriately ends the tape with a steamy softcore sexcapade for the cameras.
Besides the background beats in the photo shoots, Hip-Hop Honeys does strive to maintain the connection to rap music by including short hang out sessions and performances from a few popular rap acts. Crystal Knight grabs the handheld mic and penetrates a few hot industry parties, chatting about pimp attire with Ice-T, laying across the laps of Royce Da 5'9 and DJ Premier, grooving with Whoo Kid, and joining Akinyele and fellow Game Girl / porn star India in a short freestyle session. Crystal is a fairly good host, though her incessant desire to overshadow the rest of the girls does get annoying sometimes.
Also, there are a few extremely short performances here as well. Following the short Royce and Primo spot, the camera joins the two onstage at a live performance of Boom! Unfortunately, the show is shot from the wings and behind the head of a Game Girl, so its not exactly the best recorded performance ever. Then, the piecemaker Tony Touch jumps behind the wheels of steel for a recorded production made for RapNetwork.com. He seamlessly blends records together (that first mix with BDPs Jack of Spades and Ghostface Killahs Cherchez LaGhost is off the chain) while Game Girls in RN tee shirts undulate dispassionately in the background. Then, at the end of the tape, stay tuned for Royces video for You Cant Touch Me, which does contain some of the Game Girls featured in this tape.
So for those rap fans looking to see more of some of their favorite female rap video personalities, make sure to check out Hip-Hop Honeys. Because unless you have a record deal or a wad of horizontally folded twenty-dollar bills in your pocket, this is the closest youre going to get to these femmes.
