Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
I rarely see children's movies since I don't have kids, but I happened to see the Country Bears with a friend and his 9-year-old daughter. I laughed throughout the entire movie, and still smile when I think about it. The opening montage of clips from this all-bear band's 1980's concerts reminded me of a "Behind the Music" feature on VH-1. We see how this band went from 80's fame to present-day obscurity, while one of their country hits plays in the background. But the star is a young boy (bear) who grew up in a human family and begins to realize (with the help of his bratty brother) that he doesn't belong. Here's where the best laughs come in - as the parents refuse to acknowledge that their "son" is actually a bear (i.e. by telling him he wasn't adopted, but just "different"). The story follows a typical cliche - boy runs away from home, feeling unloved, and returns to the loving arms of his family. In the meantime, however, we are thoroughly entertained by some great country music by Bonnie Raitt, John Hiatt, and others who make very clever cameos throughout.
