Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
I love horror movies, and I waited in anticipation for the Ring to come out in DVD. I should have been aware of what the story was going to be like based upon two things. The first is Gore Verbinski he also done the movie The Mexican I thought that was a stupid movie to. Then I watched the movie Fear Dot Com and that was stupid. So this movie is generally based upon Fear Dot Com I was rather disappointed in the movie, and I felt it wasnt scary at all. There however was a few moments through out this movie that did make me stop and look. The problem with that was I had to wait until the final moments of the movie to really say wow that was cool. Anyway that is my general thought about this movie, so now let me tell you a little detailed information about it and let you decide if you want to see it or not.
The Ring
When the movie begins I figured it was pretty cool, you see two girls sitting around talking about normal girl things then all of a sudden the one girl begins to tell this so called Urban Legend about a video tape. It has been told that if you watch this video then you get a phone call right afterwards telling you that you have 7 days to live. Well the one girl says it wasnt a urban legend that she seen this movie along with her boyfriend and two other friends and it was now the 7th day. A few moments later the girl ends up dead and her friend is found inside a closet almost frozen in fear. That was a good part of the movie. Now we are introduced to the main star of the movie Naomi Watts who plays the girls aunt. Her sister wants Rachael to investigate into the death of her daughter. Rachael is a reporter so she has many links that can help.
Naomi over hears two girls talking about a video tape and realized that her niece watched this tape. She begins her search and ends up at the cabin were the friends were the night they viewed the tape. Naomi ends up watching the tape, and yes you guessed it, she got a phone call telling her she now had 7 days left to live. She takes the tape to her ex-boyfriend Noah played by Martin Henderson. He views the video as well, but what makes the story plot even better Rachael has a son, who ends up watching the tape as well. David Dorfman plays Rachaels son named Aiden. Aiden is weird already, he is a depressed boy, and all he ever does is draw pictures. The pictures he draws are freaky and Rachael doesnt understand them.
Now that all three have seen this movie Rachael knows she has to find an answer to save her life, but most of all save her sons life. The search begins and during the search for answers Rachael and Noah find themselves in some remarkable situations. Does time run out for the three? Does Rachael find the answer to the video? Who is behind this video? What made the girl in the closet freeze up with fear? Those are just a few questions that I wont answer in the review. You will have to watch the movie and find the answers.
Final Thoughts
The actors were great, but the story line was rather slow and boring. You really didnt get to see the gory things in the movie, maybe a flash would go by and you could see a few scary parts but other then that it wasnt great. The music of course was eerie witch is always great in a horror movie. The quality of the color and graphics and special effects were cool. I guess the problem with this movie is the story line didnt hold up to horror movies.
