I do like romantic comedies. I go see some in the theaters and I own some on DVD. I have been wanting to see Two Weeks Notice since I first saw previews for the movie. My best friend and I went to see it. We both really liked the movie, though we had to put up with people sitting in front of us. We even moved once, but then a woman with big hair sat right in front of me. She wouldnt stop flopping her head around either. Then in the middle of the movie, her friends cell phone started to go off.
PLOT
Lucy was a lawyer who had been raised by her parents to fight for what she believed in. She protested things and tried to use the law to help her causes. She wasnt always successful. She and two others were protesting the demolition of an old movie theater. Lucy had to call her parents to bail them out of jail. The theater was torn down anyway. Lucy then learned that the community center in the neighborhood where she grew up was in danger of being torn down.
George Walsh was a very wealthy man. He worked for his familys company. He annoyed his brother on a regular basis. George was a bit of a playboy. He tended to hire beautiful women who went to unknown law schools to be the corporate lawyers for the company. George usually got involved with them. The lawyers always ended up messing up somehow and being fired. Georges brother was fed up and wanted George to hire an intelligent lawyer who knew what they were doing. He also mentioned finding someone who had gone to Yale or Harvard.
George started to interview new lawyers. Lucy showed up wanting to talk to him about not tearing down the community center. George thought that she wanted an interview and the lawyer job so he started to ask her questions. After he found out why she was really there, he came up with an idea. Hed save the community center if she came to work for him. She would be able to make decisions about which charities the company donated money too. After thinking about it, Lucy decided to take the job.
George quickly started to depend on Lucy to help him make decisions for all kind of things from stationery to a mattress. Hed call her in the middle of the night because he wanted to chat. When a call from George pulled Lucy out of her best friends wedding, Lucy wasnt happy. She didnt stop to think that part of it was her fault since she had left her cell phone on. She rushed to George to find that he wanted help picking out a suit. That was the last straw for her and she gave him her two-week notice.
George didnt want Lucy to quit, and he tried to stop her. She was just as determined to quit. She just couldnt handle working for him anymore. George realized that and they were able to work out something. She would help him find her replacement and train them before she left. George and Lucy spent a lot of time together during that time. June Carter, a recent graduate from Harvard Law School, just showed up one afternoon hoping for an interview. Lucy talked to her briefly and then George popped into the room and hired her. June started to flirt with him in a big way and he was eating it up. She was just like the women he hired before Lucy except she had gone to Harvard. Lucy wasnt happy about June being hired. The more she saw June flirt around with George, the more annoyed Lucy got.
Did Lucy go ahead with her plans to quit? Did anything happen between George and June? George and Lucy?

Two Weeks Notice was released in theaters in December 2002. The movie was 100 minutes long and rated PG-13 for some sex related humor. Younger children shouldnt see the movie, but it could be ok for older kids to see.
I really enjoyed Two Weeks Notice. The movie was a romantic comedy, so it was predictable, but that didnt make me like it any less. This was a light-hearted movie, though it did briefly touch on a few serious issues related to some of the causes Lucy believed in. Watching the movie was a fun way to spend a few hours. The movie wasnt deep or serious, and it didnt make me think about anything. This was more of a chick flick, but there were several men in the theater too - though they were there with wives or girlfriends.
Two Weeks Notice was a funny movie. It made me laugh several times. There were a few slapstick like moments in the movie, but there werent too many. The movie was a bit silly a few times, but that was ok. I like silly movies sometimes. One time, George and Lucy went to a charity tennis event. After they left, Lucy had a bathroom emergency when they were stuck in a traffic jam. George came up with a unique solution to the problem. Later in the movie, Lucy and June ended up in a fight over a stapler that was really funny.
Lucy and Georges relationship provided the romance for Two Weeks Notice. The movie showed how they met, but it did skim over the development of their relationship up to the point when Lucy told him she was quitting. They never dated, but there was an attraction between them. They both had doubts about getting involved. George had been married and divorced. Lucy had been involved with a man for several years, but he was always gone with the Peace Corp. That relationship didnt end well. There were no sex scenes or nudity in the movie. There were a few sexually related remarks that different characters made. At one point, two characters were playing strip chess. They were shown missing some articles of clothing, but everything that needed to be covered was still covered. People at the beach show more skin.
Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock had good chemistry together in Two Weeks Notice. Their characters did seem to connect with each other. They were both believable in their roles. I thought they were both funny. Sandra was hilarious in a scene where Lucy was tipsy. Bullock and Grant have both been in other romantic comedies in the past. I think that they do well in that type of movie. Some things about the character of Lucy did remind me of Gracie, the character Bullock played in Miss. Congeniality. Grant didnt seem to be as bumbling as he has been in some of his other movies. Bullock and Grant both made more serious movies earlier in 2002. Bullock was in Murder by Numbers and Grant was in About a Boy. I thought that Alicia Witt was good as June. I didnt really like that character too much, but Witt was good in the role. She use to be in the television show Cybil. I also saw her in the movie Urban Legends. I read somewhere that she turned down the role of Mary Jane in SpiderMan.
CHARACTERS
Lucy Kelson - She was a lawyer who fought for caused she believed in. She tried to make a difference. Even though she got irritated at George, she seemed to like that he depended on her. She could be emotional at times, and she tended to eat too much when she was sad or upset.
George Worth - He was a member of a very wealthy family. He loved to do things that irritated his older brother and that would have ticked his father off if he was still alive. George wasnt very responsible. He had a reputation for being a playboy. He liked to have fun.
June Carter - She was a recent graduate from Harvard Law School. She turned up without an appointing wanting an interview. She acted serious around Lucy, but turned into a ditzy flirt when George was around. She seemed to want to have a relationship with George.
Two Weeks Notice was the best romantic comedy I have seen in a long time. I really enjoyed it, though I would have enjoyed it more if I had been able to see around the big hair in front of me. Two Weeks Notice is worth watching if you like romantic comedies or are fans of either Sandra Bullock or Hugh Grant.
