About Me: Just image how funny and clever this "About Me" snip could have been!

SpongeBob SquarePants : Lost at Sea DVD , Castaway meets The Three Stooges

Written: Aug 08 '04 (Updated Oct 16 '05)
Pros:Nine SpongeBob shows on one DVD, very funny shows, DVD extras
Cons:You won’t want to wash the dishes with a sponge after watching this DVD!
The Bottom Line: The whole cast from Bikini Bottom are on this DVD. Two hours of good, clean humor for the family!

Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.

I found myself sporting my SpongeBob boxers again! I could not help myself. I popped in the Nickelodeon DVD and the boy freshly adorned with SpongeBob slippers and T-shirt sat down to watch the 110 minutes of SpongeBob SquarePants: Lost at Sea. It is a collection of nine episodes of the show headlined with the double length show The Sponge who could fly.

The magic that is SpongeBob
As already stated, this is a collection from the show. It is a little easier to break down the shows that make up the DVD.

The Sponge who could fly: This is the double length episode that headlines the DVD. It is also the famed “lost” episode, ala The Honeymooners. The show is introduced by Patchy the Pirate and his every present pal, Polly.

Impassioned to experience the jellyfish of Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob concocts a master plan to learn to fly like the jellies. Patrick gets in on the deal to help the plan to come together. Sure to bring a tear to your eye!

Plankton: This episode introduces you to Plankton, Mr. Krab’s archenemy. Plankton is forever seeking to steal the recipe to Mr. Krab’s crabby patty. Plankton wants the formula for his own restaurant, The Chum Bucket.

The best line from this show: “Shwing…sparkle, sparkle”-Plankton

Boating School: Mrs. Puff runs a boating school and SpongeBob wants to get his license. After several failed attempts SpongeBob and Patrick get together to figure out a way to cheat the test. A guilt-ridden sponge is an ugly thing.

Suds: What happens when a sponge gets sick? He gets suds, that is what! Patrick plays doctor (not in the adult sense!) to try to cure SpongeBob. Sandy comes to the rescue and takes SpongeBob to the doctor’s office.

Mermaidman and Barnacleboy 2 One of my favorites! A very funny duo of elderly superheros in their golden years teach SpongeBob how they fight crime. There is a cleaver poke at The Simpson’s, covering Bart’s famous “Batman” song. This is a very funny episode.

The Chaperone: Mr. Krab (a crab) has a daughter, Pearl (a whale) (a whale?) who is dumped right before her prom. SpongeBob steps up to the plate to help a damsel in distress. SpongeBob shows off his dance moves as he does “The Sponge”!

Bubble Buddy: It is Leaf Erickson Day in Bikini Bottom and SpongeBob is desperate for companionship to celebrate. Patrick is out so SpongeBob does the next best thing, he makes a buddy out of bubbles.

Your Shoes untied: Patrick goes to SpongeBob for advice. Patrick wants to learn to tie his shoes but SpongeBob has forgotten how to tie a knot. SpongeBob goes looking for someone to show him again. Ever notice fish do not wear shoes? SpongeBob runs into a few problems!

PreHibernation Week: Sandy the squirrel is in a prehibernation fit. She recruits SpongeBob into a week of extreme events to live it up a little before she sleeps the winter away. Things get way out of hand as Sandy runs SpongeBob to near death. Pantera does the soundtrack for this episode.

Special Features
The DVD is in Full Screen Format and is in Dolby Digital.

There is an audio commentary from the director, Stephen Hillenburg and Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob for the The Sponge who could fly episode. There is also a storyboard for this episode.

A funny little bonus is SpongeBob’s 7 Life Strategies, a self-help guide based on the philosophies of SpongeBob. It runs like a mini infomercial.

Personal Impressions
We are huge SpongeBob fans and you need to be to sit through the 110 minutes of this DVD straight. If you never have seen SpongeBob this is a great DVD to get! This collection is some of the funniest SpongeBob’s around. You can watch the DVD episode by episode to avoid being over sponged.

I would recommend this DVD to anyone who is a fan and those wondering what all the fuss is about.
