Pros: Challenging & motivating, definitely targets the areas promised by the title (and more!)
Cons: Clips of the exercises cut in a bit too quickly sometimes, use pause when necessary.
I must say that I do have a love-hate relationship with Billy Blanks and his various versions of Tae Bo. However, if you enjoy being sweaty and sore yet having a sense of accomplishment at the end of a workout, I would highly recommend the Ultimate Abs and Butt DVD! It is an incredible high-energy workout that is geared to get you into great shape. The Ultimate Abs and Butt is a DVD comprised of various clips of his other workouts in order to deliver a more targeted workout based on your needs.
The Ultimate Abs workout is specifically targeted for(obviously) your abs. This workout leads you through a series of various moved designed increase strength and tone in that area. Billy Blanks leads you through a series of advanced moves that not only helps to target the abs but gives the added benefit of working out your upper body and your lower body. In the last 15-20 minutes, there is a floor workout that intensively conditions and strengthens the abs. The entire workout lasts about 45-50 minutes including warm-up and cool down. Although the Ultimate Abs workout is not solely ab intensive, it does deliver results. The point of the workout throughout all the exercises is an elaboration of what Billy Blanks reiterates throughout all of his other workout video which is to tighten your abs by holding in your stomach as you work through the moves.
The Ultimate Butt workout is a very motivating workout that concentrates on working those butt muscles. This workout will definitely make you sweat even more so than the Ultimate Ab workout. Again, although this workout does concentrate on the butt area, it also gives an intensive workout to the lower body area and a bit lighter of a workout to the upper body. Be prepared to experience a very intense workout though...believe me...it is no joke! This video last about 45-50 minutes and includes a warm-up and cool down. There is also about 15-20 minutes of floor work that completely targets the butt.
This DVD combination of two workouts on one disc is definitely a worthwhile investment. The workouts are motivating and the exercises are challenging. They both target the areas promised by the title and the best thing is that the workouts do not become less challenging over a period of time if you put all of your energy into them. I've heard people complain about how annoying Billy Blanks can be, or that the people working out are too fit or too fat or too sweaty. However, the point of the workout is to work out, not to pop it into the DVD player and hope that the people working out on the video will somehow osmotically make you fitter. Do I hate Billy Blanks sometimes? Yes (although maybe hate is a strong word)! He does motivate you though and gets you through the workout. Every time you use this DVD, you have the opportunity to feel better, fitter, and stronger and he encourages you to use the energy within yourself to achieve a fitter body. This is what all of his videos are about...self empowerment. He's about the only workout guru who doesn't seem pretentious...think Richard Simmons for the 21st century (though no one seemed to like him because I guess he was too happy). The point is that his videos work and are worthwhile to use.
In closing, I would highly recommend trying some Tae Bo Basic and Advanced workouts before using the Ultimate Abs and Butt. If it is your first time doing Tae Bo, it would definitely help to familiarize yourself with the various moves so as not to cause injury. Even if you have done Tae Bo before, again, do use the Advanced Tae Bo workouts to prepare yourself for the Ultimate Abs & Butt. There is no point in trying to rush into these workouts only to be down with an injury for some time.
I thank you for reading and wish you a great day!
