xyzwyatt's Full Review: Walk Away the Pounds for Abs with Leslie Sansone 2...
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
This DVD is called Leslie Sansone: Walk Away the Pounds for Abs 2 in 1 . There are two workouts on this DVD. Get up and Get Started which is a 15 minute one mile walk with weights and a High Calorie Burn with is a 30 minute 2 mile walk with weights.
This copy was done with 2 pound weights. I was surprised to find that this is very similar to the Walk Away the Pounds for Abs using a belt. The moves are slightly different because the same movements can not be done for a belt and weights but the same muscle groups are worked.
I found the version with the ab belt very effective (losing 2 pant sizes while using it on a weekly basis to get rid of the baby weight). This version of the workout is done with exercise weights which are also good but I think the ab belt is better.
If you don't want to pay for the ab belt which can only be purchased through her site, this is a nice alternative. The workouts are extremely similar so I don't see any reason to have both workouts.
Equipment Needed
The workout uses a pair of weighted balls. The exact 2 pound weighted balls that they are using runs around $13 and can be purchased separately but does not come with this workout. (They are included in the $60 Walkblaster package). I have seen similar balls in the exercise section in stores. I just used my traditional hand weights. The workout would still be good even if the weights weren't used at all.
Get up and Get Started
This is only a one mile walk which will only take 15 minutes. I almost didn't even bother with this workout because it was so short but I figured I would attach it to the second workout on here to make a 45 minute workout.
There are 8 walkers behind Leslie Sansone in this workout. Everyone is wearing a blue top and black bottoms. The walkers look like average people in all different shapes and sizes. The music is pretty much a drum beat so it doesn't really add or take away from the workout.
Very little room is used in this walk. We walked in place, kicked the feet forward, reverse kicks, side to side, and leg lifts. We lifted our hands above our head and out to the side with numerous times while holding weights.
All of the moves were very simple that anyone can do. The moves were also demonstrated with no weights being used and modified with weights. Holding the weights while walking in place is also an option.
There is a mile marker at the bottom of the screen that pops up at different intervals to let you know how far you have gone in the walk.
The walk is short yet feels more effective jut by adding some weight at the middle of the walk. This would be a nice workout if you don't have time for something longer. I was not tired or sweaty after completing this. It would be a nice option to add to another workout or use as a replacement for a cup of coffee in the afternoon to get your blood flowing.
High Calorie Burn
In this workout the group of ladies and the older gentleman (Randy) accompany Leslie. They are dressed in pink shirts for this workout. The beginning of the walk is a warm-up which explains the four basic steps that are going to be used during the workout. Walk I place, side steps, leg lifts, and kicks. The hands are used at different intervals throughout the workout to raise the heart rate. There is a walker that modifies the move for less intensity.
This is really an easy workout. It's not really hard because it's all based off of walking. The pace causes the heart rate to rise which burns the calories. The leg lifts and arm work with the weights help sculpt the muscles. The movements with the weights are not designed to make muscles.
Leslie Sansone
The instructor, Leslie Sansone, did a nice job instructing in both of these workouts. She explained the movements and timed the movements well. There was a lot of chit-chat with the walkers which after repeat playing can become annoying.
Overall
I tried this one and followed it with the next workout on the DVD which didn't work out very good. I didn't feel like taking the time to re-warm up and the DVD doesn't have an option to skip the warm-up. I also felt like the walk repeating a lot of what I just did in the 1 mile walk. So although the walks are both good, they don't complement each other very well for a complete workout.
This was a very good DVD which has two effective walks on them. Leslie was with different walkers in this workout but played out nearly the same as many other workouts. If you don't have other Walk Away the Pounds workouts this would be a great choice. If you already have a few of Leslie's recent walking DVD's you may find this boring and redundant.
Even though these two workouts aren't really hard, I feel better after doing them. This is fabulous for days when I can't motivate myself for a strenuous workout. I also find that I lose more weight from these walking workouts than I ever have with other workouts.
