Here, Douglas (in the Falk role) is a CIA agent and Brooks a neurotic podiatrist unwittingly involved in the former's clandestine adventuresthink James Bond paired with Woody Allen. Unlike the original, however, Douglas's profession is never really in doubt, which only serves to blunt the humor. While not completely devoid of laughs, the leads are not well served by the screenplay (credited to Nat Mauldin and Ed Solomon). And supporting characters are, for the most part, weak. Especially embarrassing: an effeminate French arms dealer played by David Suchet. I guess it's open season on France (who can forget "freedom fries"?) in that they opposed W's war in Iraq, but gay jokes? Douglas reportedly dumped his agent less than two months after pic's release. A low point in Brooks' distinguished career as well. Sexy Robin Tunney stands out. With Lindsay Sloane, Ryan Reynolds and Candice Bergen.
