Thanks, Pat! As always, you are a fount of useful information. I have the two older LPs, King of the Delta Blues Singers I and II. Have to check out that newer CD to hear the alternate Travelin Riverside Blues.

It was said in the film that RJ could be talking to you and hear a song one time on the radio. The next thing you know he could be playing it and singing it letter perfect. Amazin brain or help from the Debbil? You make the call!

In 1998, a remastered version of "King Of The Delta Blues Singers" featured an unreleased track, an alternate version of "Traveling Riverside Blues." Thus, Johnson now has 42 tracks in his released anthology. I hope this helps. Thanks for sharing!
Sincerely, Pat

This one is as close to the true story as they can make it. Robert Johnson left no writings and only 29 songs (that have been analyzed to death).

The video story is told by his contemporaries, friends, and an old girlfriend. Danny Glover spins some old 78 rpm cuts and then the camera cuts to Keb Mo who looks like RJ and plays the ole gitbox and sings. Quite impressive. Hope you can see it!

what an interesting term.
And what a great, yet tragic story.
His life even sounds like a movie.

I have to admit that I watched "Crossroads" 3 times some years ago to get the drift of it.

I still had to ask my son to watch it to get his version. He basically told me the same thing you just wrote.

It was a very haunting movie. I have it on video, bought it when videos weren't sold in stores. I bought it from the video store....begged the manager to let me buy it. It was the most expensive video I ever bought! But it was worth it.

So... Robert Johnson did die at a young age? I never knew he was poisoned.

Thanks for answering my comment. I'm calling the library tomorrow to see if they have this video.

Your reviews are always so entertaining.

Hi Carol,

Crossroads was a good movie.

Robert Johnson was the real guy who was said to have sold his soul to the devil, inspiring all the future rockers like Led Zeppelin's flirtation with satanism.

It's a really nice documentary of the old time blues days. Thanks for leaving a comment. Missed you!

The only time I heard of Robert Johnson was in the movie with Ralph Macchio called "Crossroads." I loved the movie and have never forgotten it.

Your review has inspired me to look up more material on this man. I have to see this movie.

Thank you for bringing it to my attention and others too.

I've got both the RJ Delta Blues Singers albums and the recorded quality of the songs just don't do justice to the dynamic individual that RJ was. Can you imagine today with the equipment they could record him with? There would be no other music on the radio if old Bob were alive today! Thanks for stopping by, Tom!

I picked up a Robert Johnson CD last week. Been listening to these oldies lately. This video sounds very interesting.
