Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
About "The Joe Review"other than I'm a pompous fool who believes his name means something :).
The one thing I look for in a movie more than everything else combined is a good, detailed, imaginative story. I HATE movies that combine a great idea, a 90 million dollar special effects budget and an aggressive marketing campaign with a script that seemed like it was thrown together over a burger and fries at McDonald's.
I also try to give away as little of the plot as possible, as typically, the less you know about a movie the more you enjoy it. (For example, I didn't know that A Beautiful Mind was based on a true story and I really thought Russell Crowe's character had been kidnapped! :) ).
Eye candy, especially when it comes in the form of Salma Hayak, Reese Witherspoon or Barbara Mori, is ALWAYS a plus for me as well :).
And now, the review
I bought this movie from the clearance rack at Kroger for 99 cents. My wife was on a scary movie kick and Kroger had a table full of used DVDs for 99 cents to $2.99 each, so I just grabbed a few that looked interesting thinking I had very little to lose.
This movie was MESSED UP. Diabolical is probably the one single word that describes it best.
The movie does a great job of painting pictures.
It paints a picture that the three "bad guys" are depraved, demented, and EVIL people with no conscience, no qualms about their damage to society, not going to lose ONE SECOND of sleep, and if you do ANY damage to them, no matter how slight, ANY slight insult to their pride will result in retribution.
It paints a picture of how impressionable a lonely teenage boy can be, and how you can just shake a sexy female body in front of them and they'll do whatever you want no matter how badly you treat them. This kid in this movie was just stupid, a complete wimp.
It paints a picture of how helpless people truly are - let's face it, if 3 crazy people are determined enough, they can wreck your life and there's usually not a thing you can do about it.
This movie actually got rises out of me emotionally. That is a very rare occurrence - trust me. They were mostly very unpleasant emotions, but that's the idea when you watch a movie like this.
The movie wastes no time developing the plot. The three "bad guys" steal a woman's dress. The woman sees one of the "bad guys" (who happens to be a girl) wearing it and steals it back, thereby starting a chain reaction of revenge after revenge that never lets you out of your seat for one second.
Warning - do not watch this movie unless you like this type of thing. The things the family and the 3 bad guys do to each other are just awful. If you can't stomach movies like Seven or Hannibal or even Pulp Fiction, don't watch this. But if you enjoy suspenseful thrillrides of seduction and revenge, I cannot recommend this movie strongly enough.
Oh, what would a Joe Review be without an Eye Candy analysis :). One of the 3 "bad guys" is a major hot blonde who exploits herself throughout the movie. Heck of a hot body!
