dragonfire88's Full Review: Looney Tunes - Back in Action
When I was growing up, I loved watching Looney Tunes cartoons. As I got older, I kept my love for the characters and even started collecting Looney Tunes items. I have glasses, kitchen items, key chains, small figures, and many stuffed characters, including a Sylvester that is at least three feet tall. Sylvester is my favorite. Even though Im older now, I still continue to love the characters. If there is something with Looney Tunes, I will see it, and more than likely, enjoy it because I love the characters so much. I was thrilled to find out that there was a new movie featuring the characters. Ive been looking forward to seeing Looney Tunes: Back in Action for several months now.
Daffy Duck was upset about his latest script. It was another one featuring him, Bugs Bunny, and Elmer Fudd arguing over if it was duck or rabbit season. Daffy would be shot, hit, and blow up several times, like usually happened to him when he worked with Bugs. Daffy was tired of it and wanted to be the hero. Kate Houghton, the Vice President of Comedy, stated that there couldnt be a Bugs Bunny movie without Bugs. She also shared that Bugs was very popular while Daffy had few fans. Daffy was fired.
DJ Drake was a security guard on the Warner Brothers lot who wanted to be a stunt double. Kate wanted him to escort Daffy from the lot. DJ had to chase Daffy all over, and they caused some destruction on the lot. DJ was then fired. Daffy tagged along back to DJs house where DJ received a strange message from his father, Damien Drake. Damien was an actor in several poplar spy movies. He wanted DJ to find the Blue Monkey diamond. DJ headed off to help his dad, with Daffy tagging along again. They didnt know it at the time, but Mr. Chairman, the man in charge of the ACME Corporation, wanted the diamond for his own plans. He called in other Looney Tunes like Yosemite Sam, Elmer Fudd, Wylie E. Coyote, Marvin the Martin, and the Tazmanian Devil to stop DJ and Daffy.
It turned out that firing Daffy wasnt a good idea. Kate was going to be fired because of it. She had a few days to get Daffy back on the set. Kate and Bugs figured out where DJ and Daffy went and followed them. All four of them ended up traveling around the world together to try to find the diamond before Mr. Chairman did.

Looney Tunes: Back in Action was released on November 14, 2003. The movie was rated PG and 90 minutes long. There wasnt any swearing in the movie. It is a family movie, but there were some things that may not be good for young children to see.
Looney Tunes: Back in Action was a combination of live action and animation, like has been done in the movies Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Space Jam. Different Looney Tunes cartoon characters were interacting with real people and real objects. The real people also interacted with some cartoon type props. I thought that the animation of the cartoon characters was really good. The interactions between the real and cartoon characters were also good. Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck were the main cartoon characters in the movie, but several other Looney Tunes characters also popped up here and there. Some, like Pepe Le Pew and Michigan J. Frog, only turned up once or twice. A few others, like Elmer Fudd, Foghorn Leghorn, and Yosemite Sam turned up a little more. I did really enjoy the movie, but I was a little disappointed that some characters like Pepe Le Pew and Sylvester were barely in the movie. It would have been nice if the writer had been able to come up with a way for some of those characters to be in the movie more.
There were some things in Looney Tunes: Back in Action that have been in many of the old Looney Tunes cartoons. The duck/rabbit season debate from the beginning of the movie has turned up in a few different cartoons. Daffy got hit, squished, and blown up several times, which usually would happen to him in the cartoons. Sylvester was trying to eat Tweety. Wylie E. Coyote tried to catch the Road Runner and had some ACME products backfire on him. Some people may find it boring or annoying that things from the old cartoons were repeated in the movies, but that didnt bother me at all. It wouldnt have seemed right to me without some of those things. Daffy always gets hit or blown up. Wylie E. Coyote cant catch the Road Runner or get the gadgets he buys to work properly. It would have been strange to me if those things werent in the movie. Those things happening are part of the characters. At a few different times in the movie, a little bit of a classic Looney Tunes cartoon featuring a singing owl was shown.
Looney Tunes: Back in Action poked a little fun at some other movies. In one scene, Shaggy and Scooby Doo were talking to the actor who played Shaggy in the movie. Shaggy was not happy with how he was portrayed. Bugs made a joke about Finding Nemo once. Damien Drake was an actor who played a spy in a series of well-known movies. That seemed to obviously be poking fun at the James Bond movies. Dalton played in two James Bond movies.
There were several different locations in Looney Tunes: Back in Action. The movie began on the Warner Brothers lot. DJ lived in a house with his father in Beverly Hills. Granny, Tweety, and Sylvester lived next door. The characters traveled to Las Vegas to try to find information about the diamond. During the drive, Bugs was singing Viva Las Vegas. Yosemite Sam had a casino there. DJ, Kate, Bugs, and Daffy ended up in the desert, where they happened to find a Wal-Mart, before going to Paris and then Africa searching for the diamond. Different characters turned up in each of the locations. The locations worked for the movie.
There was some cartoon type violence in Looney Tunes: Back in Action which is why the movie was rated PG. There were some fights between cartoon characters, and between real and cartoon characters. Different cartoon characters where hit, flattened, and blown up, some more than once. Daffy seemed to be on the receiving end of different violent acts throughout the movie. That didnt bother me. Some parents may have concerns about their children seeing those things. Some children could be upset by those things. I didnt think that the movie was that violent.
Joe Alaskey provided the voices for several of the cartoon characters in Looney Tunes: Back in Action. I thought he did a good job with the voices. They didnt sound exactly like the original voices provided by Mel Blanc in the cartoons, but they didnt sound that different either. Some sounded closer than others. Brendan Fraser did a good job as DJ in the movie. He also did the voice of the Tazmanian Devil. I thought that Jenna Elfman was fine in her role. Heather Locklear had a small part as Dusty Tails. She didnt have much to do, but was good in the few scenes she had. Timothy Dalton didnt have that many scenes either, but he did a good job. I loved Steve Martins performance as Mr. Chairman. When I first saw the previews of the movie, I had no idea who was playing Mr. Chairman. I didnt recognize him at all. He talked with a very funny voice, had strange hair, and a weird walk. He was a bit over the top, but that was perfect for the character and the movie. He was hilarious.

Daffy Duck - He wasnt as popular as Bugs. Daffy had worked with Bugs a lot. Daffy usually ended up getting hurt someway.
I really enjoyed Looney Tunes: Back in Action. The movie was very entertaining to me. This movie isnt serious in any way. It is a bit silly at times, but that didnt bother me. It could be too silly for some people. This is a movie that is meant to be watched just for entertainment. I will be getting the DVD once it comes out.
