This has all of the elements of a movie everyone in the family can enjoy: lots of kids, animals, messy fun, and no real plot to get in the way. The story revolves around a family of 12 children for a very rural area who move to Chicago when their father (Steve Martin) receives his dream job to coach the football team for his alma mater. The mother, who long ago gave up her career to stay at home with the children, now finds herself promoting a book about what it is like to have 12 children and has to leave the family for a few days. Of course, chaos ensues when the father suddenly becomes unable to juggle his job responsibilities and those to his family.
The plot leaves much to be desired (Why didn't the university help the coach with childcare with one of the thousands of students at the school?) and if you can accept that going in you will have a much better time at this movie. The movie itself it great for almost any age and the children at the movie were laughing out loud for much of it. I can't think of anything at all that I would find objectional for children. The cast is good with some recognizable faces beyond Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt. I will say that my wife enjoyed this movie much more than I did.
