Pros:Good action, Aaron Eckhart
Cons:Not too believable--falls a bit flat in places.
The Bottom Line: It was okay, don't expect anything too grand--but it wasn't bad either.

Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.

I heard that this film wasn't all that good, and that Affleck is losing it. I don't agree. This was a halfway smart film. The plot wasn't bad, and I didn't think the acting was that bad either--not the best I have seen mind you, but not that badly done.

Plot--Michael Jennings, Ben Affleck, is a reverse engineer. He takes things apart and makes them better, but there is one catch. After he is done the companies erase his memory so he can't rebuild it or tell anyone he has done it. He doesn't seem to mind losing portions of his memory. He likes his life as it is. Then his friend Jimmy, Aaron Eckhart, offers him a deal. Three years of work with his memory erased for an amount that will make sure he never has to work again. Michael takes the job, when he is done and his memory erased he remerges into life to find out he has given away his money and sent himself an envelope of ordinary items. He can't figure out what is going on. The FBI is after him for something he can't remember. I won't tell you more--it would ruin the story line. The plot becomes a little unbelievable, but it is a great action ride.

I thought the action scenes were well done, but what else do we expected from John Woo, we even get a little martial arts action from ole Ben--nothing too fancy. A fair car/motorcycle chase, and some fun around the subway.

The script isn't too bad—not too stilted—but not too much character development either, and the acting was fair. I would have thought that Michael would have been more confused at the beginning, and wouldn't have figured it out so quick, but he was a pretty smart guy after all. Ben does an okay job; this is his character type after all, in-the-right-hero running from someone to save the world. He falls a little flat in places, but it’s a forgivable job. Aaron Eckhart is good as Jimmy, the friend turned enemy. I see this guy going places. He plays the boy next door well as well as the slick evil businessman. Uma Thurman was alright (not a fan of hers) she gave a presentable performance as the tough biologist girlfriend that Michael can't remember. Paul Giamatti gives a good, comic relief performance as the best friend of Michael. Overall the acting was all right.

This was an alright film, sort of glad I rented it, it was a great Friday evening on the couch film, If you like an action packed film then you probably won't be disappointed in this film, or if you are a fan of Affleck's.
