yotaruvegeta's Full Review: Kiddy Grade - Vol. 2: Pieces of the Past
Plot Details: This opinion reveals everything about the movie's plot.
In volume two, Kiddy Grade gets a bit more violent a bit more sexy and much more interesting. The first episode starts off with a girl being involved in the gunning down of other innocent children. This flashback has an importance to the end of the first episode, and it is the best episode of this volume. Eclair gets involved in a cyborg battle tournament in order to discover who has stolen a very powerful cyborg enhancement from the Global Union and why. "High/Speed" is not only filled with the usual action, but a bit of skin as well. The skin quotient has been upped a bit from volume 1, which only did the basic fanservice of white panties.
In "Day/Off" Eclair and Lumiere have well, a day off! As you can expect, the vacation is interrupted by some people who are up to no good. There are two opposing underworld groups, black market dealings, a kiss that looks really inappropriate and, well, a bit more skin. I don't know what went on between the first few episodes and now, but some artist was just in the mood for naughtiness.
The final episode's title, "Twin / Star," perplexes me because there are no twins here, and that bummed me out for some reason. What this episode is about is a set of mid-flight robberies on commuter crafts that Eclair and a newly introduced character, Mrs. Paduska, a high ranking member of the G.O.T.T. who is soon to end her service because of her recent marriage. Mrs. Padushka acts like she doesn't have any actual field training and yet she does mention that she has been in the G.O.T.T. for so long, which is just odd to me. Is she some kind of desk jockey? That is not really explained.
This is the second most action-packed episode (which isn't had when there are only three episodes a volume). A new elite ES duo is introduced, Sinistra and Dextra. They aren't as interesting as the first elite ES duo we meet in volume 1 (Alv and Dverger), and they barely get any play in the episode. We also never get to see what type of abilities they possess. Also, there's some secret that I guess we'll discover in the next volume about Eclair.
The DVD extras include all of what you got in volume 1. I think the best feature is the preview for the upcoming Kiddy Grade episodes, which hints at some better storytelling and a hint at what might have happened to Eclair (and maybe Lumier) in their past. In volume 1, Their boss hints at something happening to the girls in the past, and that makes me very curious.
