The Intro
Volume two of Wedding Peach brings us more plot and character development than any self respecting magical girl anime has any business delivering but come on, let's not hold that against it!
The Story
Six more episodes are here for our viewing pleasure. In episode one, the girls "reporting" reveals that the qualities that guys in their school like most are girls that are cute, bubbly and skinny as a stick which best represents one of the school's track stars. Unfortunately Pluie unleashes a devil who taints the most popular rice supply in the neighborhood making every girl who eats it very fat so that their boyfriends will no longer love them. The plot development in this episode is that the girls pick up a new ally in their fight against the devils in the form of Jama-P, the little ferby looking thing that Wedding Peach was able to successfully clear of all evil in Volume 1.
In the second episode, a devil that looks like a little puppet named Pajama is unleashed. It strikes those who are in love causing them to fall into a deep sleep. The only way to wake them up is by either defeating the devil or receiving a kiss from someone you love. Unfortunately, the only one who can defeat this devil, Momoko, is hit with his spell and put into a deep sleep. The plot development in this episode comes in the form of Momoko's love being revealed when he kisses her (albeit accidentally) to wake her up. I'm not going to tell you who exactly it is but it's pretty obvious.
Episode three is about the girls trying to come up with a game plan to fight the devils only to be called into duty to fight off a devil who is attacking an idol who is getting married. The real story on this episode though is when Aphrodite appears and finally tells us what exactly the Saint Something Four is and the story behind it.
Episode four has tons of plot development! After the girls have a fight, their powers start to diminish which allows Pluie to discover their real identity. After Hinagiku is targeted, Pluie engages her in direct combat but she can't transform to defend herself! Lots more information is given to us by Limone about the girls powers and the Saint Something Four and if my constant anime viewing has taught me anything, this information is going to be very important later on.
In the fifth episode, the school is preparing for it's big anniversary celebration but somehow Hinagiku travels to the future and sees the event before it happens. When the day repeats, she tries to warn all the girls about the events that are about to happen.... including their beloved soccer captain getting into an accident! No real plot development is shown in this episode but there is some good character development that was fun to watch.
The final episode of this volume reveals to us that Pluie has a rival in the devil world. She is a greedy water devil that loves money named Aquelda. She opens up a fortune telling stand and makes every girl who goes in there asking about love believe that love is a lie (through magic of course). Very fun episode!
The Good and the Bad
As you can tell by the title, the writing in this series isn't exactly it's strongest point but being that you can't expect good writing from this series you gotta chalk it up to something that is part of it's charm.
The entire volume was great once again. The plot development was great and the characters are really getting fleshed out. Just remember that this series is predictable and so if you are looking for major suspense you'll in for a pretty big let down.
The only real issues I have is that I'm still having trouble with some of the audio transfers where it's hard to hear what is being said, especially during transformation and battle sequences. This isn't so much of a problem on the subbed track where I can just read what is being said but it is slightly annoying on the dub track.
Dub vs. Sub
Both the dub and sub track on this volume are excellent and I really enjoyed them both. I actually have no way of being able to choose which one I like more. Both dub and sub fans shouldn't be disappointed with either track.
Music
All of the music in this volume was well done and unobtrusive. I'm still really digging the opening and closing themes!
Extras
Unfortunately, the only extras on this volume are a clean opening and closing animation.
Overall
Overall this series is a winner thus far! Aimed at young girls but enjoyable for everyone, it's something that should be picked up by everyone. Parents be warned though! Damn is uttered twice in this volume! Gasp and horror!
