Recently there have been several movies released that looked interesting to me. Some of them havent made it to the one theater here, but some of the others have. I saw and enjoyed The Whole Nine Yards. I have been wanting to see the sequel, The Whole Ten Yards, ever since I first saw a preview for it. I was able to go see the movie and I really enjoyed it.
Since The Whole Ten Yards is a sequel to another movie, I may mention some things when talking about it that could be considered spoilers for The Whole Nine Yards. People who havent seen the first movie yet should read at their own risk.
Jimmy The Tulip Tudeski was living in Mexico with his second wife, Jill. Jimmy was a former hit man who faked his own death with help from his neighbor Oz, a dentist. Jill had worked for Oz for a few weeks, but she wanted to be a professional killer. Jimmy and Oz ended up in a mess with a mobster that Jimmy worked with. Janni ended up dead, and Oz came up with the idea for how Jimmy could fake his death so he could get away from the other members of the mob that he worked with.
Jimmy and Oz hadnt seen each other for a few years, but Oz and Jill talked on the phone every so often. Oz married Jimmys first wife, Cynthia, and they now lived in California. Oz was a bit paranoid about the security around their home and kept worrying that someone was going to come after them. He even mentioned putting in a moat. Jill was still trying to make a name for herself as a professional killer, but things kept going wrong for her on jobs. Jimmy was no longer in the business. He stayed at home cooking and cleaning. Jill wasnt happy that Jimmy wasnt interested in being a killer anymore. She was also upset because she and Jimmy had been trying to have a baby but werent having any luck yet. Jimmy and Cynthia were plotting something, but they were keeping it from Jill and Oz.
Lazlo Gogolak, Jannis father, was released from jail. He wasnt happy that his son had been killed. Lazlo somehow knew that Jimmy was alive and planned to go after him. His other son, Strabo, was helping him, but he kept messing things up. Lazlo and his goons kidnaped Cynthia and turned up inside Ozs house. Lazlo wanted to know where Jimmy was. Oz managed to get away. He headed for Mexico and Jimmys home. Jimmy wasnt happy to see Oz when he got there. Jimmy was acting a bit strange and moody. Jimmy ended up agreeing to help Oz get Cynthia back when Lazlo and his goons showed up, but Jimmy wasnt happy about it. Jill and Jimmy were having some marital problems that didnt help the situation. Jimmy continued to have some mood swings and Oz kept freaking out about different things. Cynthia didnt seem to be too upset about being kidnaped.

The Whole Ten Yards was released on April 9, 2004. The movie was rated PG-13 and 99 minutes long. I dont think younger children should see this movie. I dont think they would be interested in it what was going on anyway.
The Whole Ten Yards took place about two years after the events in The Whole Nine Yards. The movie started right off, and didnt do any kind of recap of what happened in the first movie. Some of the characters did mention some things that happened in the first movie at different times. I think that people who liked the first movie would also like this one since many of the same characters returned. The person I saw the movie with hadnt seen the first one, so she wasnt familiar with the characters, but she still enjoyed the movie. She wasnt sure who some characters were at first, but it didnt take her long to figure out. I do think that other people who havent seen the first movie could enjoy this one and follow what was going on all right.
I thought that The Whole Ten Yards was very funny. Some people might think it was too silly, but I enjoyed it. When Jimmy first turned up at the beginning of the movie, he was cooking and cleaning. Since moving to Mexico, he had changed into some kind of Martha Stewart like person who was obsessed with making the prefect meal and having everything just right in the house. He also wore bunny slippers and named his chickens. It was really funny to see someone who had been a tough killer fussing about dinner and the house and walking around in bunny slippers. I also thought that Oz was funny. He was very paranoid about someone tied to Janni coming after him and Cynthia. He had a collection of guns in the house and cameras all over the place. He freaked out over small things at times, like he did in the first movie. I think he was freaking out more though. He was really funny when he did that.
There wasnt too much action in The Whole Ten Yards. Oz was focused on getting Cynthia back. Lazlo did have men following Oz and there was shooting in the movie at different times. There really werent any fight scenes. The movie wasnt action packed, but there was enough going on to keep me interested. I wasnt bored by what was going on at any time. I wasnt exactly sure what Jimmy was up to, but the movie wasnt really suspenseful. It was still enjoyable. There was some violence, but it was mostly in just a few scenes. Some of the violence was shown as it happened. The movie wasnt really violent overall though.
There were two married couples in The Whole Ten Yards, but there really wasnt any romance in the movie. Jimmy and Jill were having some disagreements at different times. They had been trying to have a baby, and they had a few discussions about that and about why they hadnt been successful. There were some conversations in the movie that were sexual in nature. Jill was in her underwear in one scene. Bruce Willis showed his naked rear end in one scene. That was it for nudity in the movie. There werent sex scenes shown, but at one time, two people could be heard off camera having sex. They did get rather loud. Some people might get offended by that or some of the discussions.
I thought that the acting in The Whole Ten Yards was very good. Bruce Willis was great as Jimmy. His moods bounced all over the place. I thought he was very believable in the part. Bruce Willis doesnt do that many funny roles. Most of his movies have been more serious, but he is also good in comedy. I loved Matthew Perry as Oz. He was very funny throughout the movie. There did seem to be a bit of Chandler, the character Perry plays on Friends, in Oz, but that worked for the character. I have seen him in some other movies as well and have enjoyed his performances in them for the most part. He has gone a little overboard at times, but it doesnt bother me. I think he is funny. Amanda Peet was good as Jill. Natasha Henstridge wasnt in the movie as much as some of the others, but she was good in her part. I havent seen her in many other movies. Kevin Pollak did well with the role of Lazlo. He talked with an accent because Lazlo was from Hungary. I have no idea if the accent was accurate, but it worked for the character. He pronounced some words funny because of the accent. Kevin Pollak played Janni in The Whole Nine Yards. He looked different in this movie since Lazlo was older.
CHARACTERS
Jimmy - He was a former hitman living in Mexico with his second wife. Jimmy had faked his own death and was hiding out. He used to work for the mob. Jimmy hadnt killed anyone for two years. He obsessed about things around the house and was acting strange. He was talking to his ex-wife Cynthia about something that he wasnt telling his wife.
Jill - Jimmys second wife. She was trying to be a professional killer, but she wasnt having much luck. The people she was hired to kill did end up dead, but she hadnt shot anyone yet and was depressed about that. She wasnt happy that Jimmy was doing so much around the house instead of killing people. She was worried that something was wrong because of how he was acting.
Oz - He was a dentist. Hed helped Jimmy fake his own death. Jill had been his receptionist, and he still talked to her so he knew where Jimmy was. Oz continued to worry that someone from the mob would come after him and his wife Cynthia. When she was kidnaped, he went to Jimmy for help.
Cynthia - Ozs wife and Jimmys ex-wife. Cynthia knew a lot of things about Lazlo from the time she was married to Jimmy. She loved Oz, but he was making her nuts with how paranoid he was. She was up to something with Jimmy and she kept it from Oz.
Lazlo - He was a mob boss that Jimmy worked with in the past. Lazlo had been in jail. He wanted to get Jimmy when he got out because he believed that Jimmy had killed his son. Lazlo had a temper and he didnt like it if anyone corrected him. He kidnaped Cynthia because he thought that Oz knew where Jimmy was.
I really enjoyed The Whole Ten Yards. I thought it was very funny and entertaining. Watching it was an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. People who enjoyed The Whole Nine Yards should enjoy this movie as well.
