yotaruvegeta's Full Review: Saikano - Vol. 2: Break-Up
Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie''s plot.
In this second volume of the wonderful sci-fi romance series, a lot of things are changing. First off, Shuuji finally reveals his relationship with an older woman to Chise, the two break up, and Chise's character develops dramatically.
Chise, with her added ability to tap into a satellite, almost sees all of Shuuji's nasty little secret, but she decides that she shouldn't pry into Shuuji's privacy. It wouldn't have made a difference, because Shuuji finally confides to her that he hasn't been totally honest.
The two decide to go back to being "just classmates" and their closest friends and fellow classmates start whispering rumors about the break-up. Oh yeah, and Chise takes out a piece of her school. This little explosion lets Chise know that she is in better control of her powers, but something else is different.
In certain instances, Chise's voice and demeanor changes and she is like a totally different person. She is confident, cocky and her comments are anything but passive. Whenever her body glows for an instant, this new personality emerges.
I love the evolving Chise and her new personality. More changes are in store for Chise as she makes a decision about her life that will change her relationships to Shuuji and all her classmates. Chise is more often referred to as "Commander Chise," which is odd when the girl could barely stop crying and loves a juice box. It's that Star Wars Han Solo rule of ranking; if you blow lots of stuff up, you get to be above guys twice your age.
Included this DVD is the usual you can expect from any anime title (artwork, DVD previews, etc), plus commentary from the Japanese voice actors. This time the focus is on the two actors who play Fuyumi and Tetsu. The theme they are discussing is adult love. I have to admit that I had problems with the dental issues the Japanese actress going on, but I like this type of extra.
This is a great anime, despite the romance, mushiness and "Idiot!" insults towards a little girl.
