nids's Full Review: Pantaleon Y Las Visitadoras/Sin Dejar Huela
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
Pantaleon y Las Visitadoras is an engaging and off-the-wall Peruvian comedy. Based on the novel by the famous Mario Vargas Llosa, it was very entertaining.
The premise is that a honored and respected soldier must set up an army brothel to quell the uprisings of the soldiers in the amazon jungle.
At first this film took me aback, with my feminist sensibilities, I was a bit uncomfortable liking this film. But, it won me over, and so did the ravishing beauty of the actress (forgive me I forgot her name) who plays the "Colombiana" in the film. Her beauty, to be cliche, is very amazon. She has wild, wild hair and a sensuality that comes through the screen right at you.
The film is of course, filled with beautiful women who serve as prostitutes for the Peruvian army which makes it easy to watch, but more than that it plays on the idea of rigid military actions.
The lead character, Pantaleon, a humble and good soldier is placed on a mission that is both unbelievable and alluring. He approaches the assignment as the good officer he is, creating charts and reports on how successful his operation is and what he will need to do in order to fully quench the sexual thirst of the soldiers in the jungle.
I am reluctant to reveal any more about the film, as I think you should go see it. Feminist sensibilities aside, it is a very well done, witty surprise of a film.
